Stribling, who scored on a 23-yard run and a 39-yard pass from quarterback Noa Bailey, also threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Dycen Coyaso in a 27-3 victory over the Warriors, marking the first time in the 17-year history of Kapolei football that the Hurricanes beat Kamehameha of the ILH. It was not, however, the first time a Hurricanes player scored touchdowns […]

Roosevelt throws out the playbook to stay in the OIA D-II race

By Billy Hull on September 28, 2019

Roosevelt senior Aalona Monteilh said he hadn’t played on offense all season. When the defending OIA Division II champion Rough Riders lost to Kaimuki last week and with undefeated Kaiser coming to Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium this week, it was time for Roosevelt to use every option available on offense to stay in the race for the top spot in the OIA Division II playoffs. Monteilh took his first handoff of the season 17 yards for a touchdown and added a […]

Govs start playing ‘Farrington football’ to come back on Waianae

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 28, 2019

Farrington played a lackluster first half Friday against Waianae, so Governors coach Daniel Sanchez wanted his team to go back to playing “Farrington football” in the second half. He didn’t elaborated on what it meant, but linebacker TJ Paleafei filled in the blanks. “Just executing every play and going hard,” Paleafei said. Raymond Millare had 21 rushes for 123 yards and a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and the Governors scored all their points in the second half for […]

Saint Louis’ front seven douses Mililani’s hot offense in 54-21 runaway

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2019

Mililani had the blueprint, and even with the scoring fireworks of the first several minutes, all seemed possible. The rematch of last year’s Open Division state championship game started as a rumble with grandeur, eye-popping big plays back and forth. It was not sustainable. After combining for 27 points in the first 6 minutes, 11 seconds, defenses started to step up. Saint Louis, which committed eight penalties in the first quarter alone, settled in and went on to a 54-21 […]

Chasing ‘Iolani, Damien hoping for help from Leilehua

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2019

Defense did the job again for the Damien Monarchs. Sure, sophomore quarterback Logan Lacio was wondrous with 225 passing yards, two TDs and no turnovers. Wide receiver Jarvis Natividad looked more like Jarvis Landry with five receptions for 138 yards and two TDs. Running back Amo Sulu was beastly with 29 carries for 184 yards, and linebacker/running back River Iaea was an ironman. He went full-time on defense and finished with 10 carries for 76 yards on offense as the […]
