It’s going to be team versus team, a hard battle for both of us.” One day short of exactly one year since a 12-win OIA champion Roosevelt team went over to Maui and got blown out […]

Kapaa primed and ready for another run at first state championship for Kauai

By Nick Abramo on November 15, 2019

THIRD IN A SERIES (On the five Neighbor Island teams in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships) There isn’t much complaining to be done by Kapaa coach Philip Rapozo this season. Normally, the most successful coaches start to moan about one part of the game or another. Not Rapozo in 2019. Things have gone smoothly so far, and the Warriors are hoping that continues for two more games. If that happens, the whole Garden Island can have a parade […]

How Leilehua ended the state title dreams of Baldwin 2007-10

By Paul Honda on November 15, 2019

When Baldwin hosts Leilehua tonight in the opening round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships in Division I, the ghosts of the past won’t linger far from the grass surface of War Memorial Stadium. In fact, the biggest menace in Baldwin’s storied history may well be upstairs in the press box. Andrew Manley was the man-child gunslinger who ended each of Baldwin’s postseasons from 2007 to ’09. “I never thought I would have a quarterback like Bryant Moniz […]
