By Nick Abramo on January 26, 2020

Not everybody wants to be a police officer. It usually takes somebody who cares about the well being of others. According to a former McKinley head football coach, Kaulike Kalama was just that type of person. Kalama, who was one of two Honolulu Police Department officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty last Sunday, played linebacker for the Tigers, earning 2002 Honolulu Star-Bulletin All-State honorable mention honors before graduating in ’03. He was also a member […]

By Nick Abramo on January 19, 2020

Lanakila Pei had his day in the sun — or his night under the lights, if you will. A star in Hawaii and unheralded everywhere else, Pei had himself a ballgame at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night. The ‘Iolani safety, who was playing cornerback for the first time, intercepted two passes, had eight tackles and broke up two passes in key situations. For that effort, he was named Defensive MVP in Team Mauka’s 20-13 victory over Team Makai in the […]

Then McQuarrie is sacked by Saint Louis’ Stanley McKenzie, and the trench men dance at […]

By Nick Abramo on January 16, 2020

Saint Louis defensive tackle Stanley McKenzie usually goes big with everything he does. >> Plug up the line in the middle, deny the run and chase the quarterback? Got it. >> Bring his big bat to the plate for the Crusaders’ baseball team? Sure thing. >> Pile up 11 Division I college football offers from all across the country? You bet. >> Be a major part of Saint Louis’ resurgence as the team to beat in Hawaii, with four state […]
