On this date in 1993, future McKinley coach Sam Cantiberos scored five touchdowns to lead his Tigers to a 40-12 win over Radford. Cantiberos, a slotback, earned two of his scores receiving, another two rushing and added a kickoff return for 77 yards. On this date in 2005, Alex Daniels had the biggest day for a running back in Radford history, but he still needed his defense’s help to keep the Rams unbeaten. Daniels ran for 263 yards and three touchdowns to lead Radford to a 35-13 victory over Moanalua at John Velasco Stadium. On this date in 2011, Saint Louis needed every play to avoid a third ILH loss. Kamana Pimental scored from five yards out with 17 seconds left to break open a tie game and beat Iolani 42-35 at Aloha Stadium. The Crusaders enjoyed a 35-14 lead at halftime but Jordan Lee plunged in from a yard out for Iolani with 3:49 remaining. On this day in 1940, legendary coach Bill “Doggy” Wise outsmarted another foe. Wise dialed up a pass in the second quarter for the only score of the game and Punahou opened its season with a 7-0 victory over rival Kamehameha at Honolulu Stadium. On this date in 1957, Waimea opened its season in style with a 52-0 home victory over visiting Kohala. Menehune quarterbacks Melvin Muranaka, who was also student body president, and sophomore Wilfred Ibara paced the offense with each earning two passing touchdowns and a running score. On this date in 1969, two of the ILH’s all-time greats locked horns in Farrington’s 25-22 victory over Kalani at Honolulu Stadium. Governors running back Onosai Tanuvasa, the first ILH back to gain 1,000 yards in a season, gained 231 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns in the victory.
