By Paul Honda on October 9, 2021

Two games, two victories for the men of Kalaepohaku. Only in this era of a global pandemic and no spectators (most of the time) at football games, Saint Louis football fans can enjoy two for the price of one. After the Saint Louis I-AA (JV) squad outlasted Kamehameha I-AA, 48-35, the Open Division Crusaders pulled out a 27-21 win over the Open Division Buffanblu. If ever there was a chance to examine the game of Ron Lee and Cal Lee […]

Remember the Warriors: Noah Bartley aims to share the wealth

By Paul Honda on October 5, 2021

He prefers comedy over horror. Honor over glitz. Noah Bartley would rather watch “The Longest Yard” and “Remember the Titans” than spend time talking about his accolades. “Titans,” in particular, rings a bell many times over. “I’ve seen this a million times,” the Kamehameha senior said. Bartley, better known to family and friends by his middle name, Sio, is featured in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Off the field, a friendly young man with a smile for everyone. Between the lines, a […]

By Paul Honda on October 4, 2021

This time, there is no tie. Kamehameha collected seven first-place votes to claim the No. 1 ranking in the Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 on Monday. The Warriors’ 35-28 win over No. 5 Punahou, coupled with a bye week for Saint Louis, broke the tie that existed in last week’s poll. Saint Louis dropped to No. 2, the first time the Crusaders have been absent from the top spot since 2016. The rest of the Top 10 remains virtually the same […]

Kamehameha’s legion secondary sparks comeback 35-28 win over Punahou

By Paul Honda on October 2, 2021

One teammate calls them Kamehameha’s version of the Legion of Boom, the once-heralded secondary with the Seattle Seahawks. “I’d call them that,” running back Noah Bartley said. “They don’t have a nickname yet. All of them can hit. Even at practice, they want to go up on me.” For all intents and purposes in this pandemic era, they might be a Legion of Zoom, from each defensive back to the coaches. For a second weekend in a row, Kamehameha was […]

By Paul Honda on October 1, 2021

That Kahuku football schedule is getting better by the day. The Red Raiders will battle Punahou on Nov. 20, in addition to an Oct. 9 matchup with Kamehameha. The date, according to Punahou coach Nate Kia, is “reserved.” Kahuku coach Sterling Carvalho does not have any remaining bye weekends for his team, but the alternative of fewer games is not on his wish list. “Hopefully, everyone stays healthy and the game can happen,” Carvalho said. After nearly two years without […]
