By Paul Honda on March 8, 2021

By Paul Honda on February 25, 2021

There are possibilities under Tier 3 that didn’t exactly exist in Tier 2 for Oahu’s youth and high school athletes. The executive order was officially approved by Gov. David Ige on Thursday morning, 12:01 a.m. The move into a more lenient and flexible tier — for the first time since the pandemic forced closure of schools last March — means organized youth and high school sports have a stronger chance of returning for spring season. That includes football and girls […]

While spring sports remain on the statewide calendar for public high schools, pending approval from the state/DOE/OIA/KIF/MIL/BIIF, the ILH has drawn up plan after plan, option after option, from Plan A to Plan I for life with or without their contemporaries. That is, in baseball, the private-school ILH has nine different plans for every imaginable scenario. If the public-school Oahu Interscholastic Association doesn’t play […]

By Paul Honda on February 6, 2021

2020 was nearly as minimal as it got for a team and a pitcher when the high school baseball season got cancelled. Shaydan Lovediro made the most of it as junior-varsity hurler. Kamehameha played three JV baseball games and was on track to join the varsity, eventually. As the COVID-19 pandemic forced closures across the country, the 6-foot, 220-pound senior didn’t get to pitch for the Warriors’ varsity squad, but he remained busy. One year later — 11 months, to […]
