Offense, defense, special teams. Third-ranked Punahou overwhelmed Waianae in every phase for a 52-0 halftime lead en route to a 52-7 win. Running back Alai Williams scored two TDs, and Punahou’s special teams scored and set up two TDs.

With All-State offensive player of the year Kainoa Carvalho out (ankle), Kahuku stepped up in a big-play way for a 41-6 win over Waianae. Kaimana Carvalho opened the game with a 77-yard kickoff return, safety/wide receiver Brock Fonoimoana broke multiple tackles for a 60-yard TD and Clyde Taulapapa scored on a 41-yard TD run. Kahuku is now 2-0, 1-0 in OIA Open Division play. Waianae is 1-1 (0-1 OIA Open).

It was an uptempo, high-voltage offensive attack by Kapolei, opening a 17-point lead before hanging on for a 27-24 win over Aiea on Friday night. Quarterbacks Tama Amisone, with 276 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage, and Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa (two TD passes) sparked the Hurricanes’ offense. Punahou’s defense was in terminator mode again, led by Travis Ross and Kekai Burnett. Burnett tallied two sacks and Ross returned a punt for a touchdown as No. 3 Punahou blanked Castle, 42-0 on Thursday night.

No scrimmages, no problem for Mission Viejo (Calif.). The visitors from the CIF jumped to a 20-point lead en route to a 34-21 win over No. 2 Mililani on Friday night. The host Trojans made it interesting with a touchdown to end the first half and added two more TDs in the third quarter.
