Punahou senior Andrei Iosivas is trying to end his season with a bang, and he has already begun to do so.
Last Saturday at Kamehameha, Iosivas broke three ILH track and field title meet records. On May 11 and 12, he’ll be trying to make his mark on state meet history in the season’s championship finale, also at Kamehameha.
Iosivas, who also played football as a wide receiver for the Buffanblu, broke a 27-year-old league record with a 10.71-second time in the 100-meter dash.
In the 200 meters, his 21.66 eclipsed a mark that had lasted for 30 years. And in the long jump, his leap of 24 feet broke a record that had stood for nine years.
According to Buffanblu sprint coach Gary Satterwhite, Iosivas is No. 20 in the nation among all high school long jumpers.
In addition, Iosivas — who is off to Princeton to play football and participate in track and field this fall, according to Satterwhite — anchored the 4×100 winning relay team for a fourth gold medal.
Three other records were broken at the ILH meet, by:
>> The Punahou 4×100 relay team of Stevie Marvin, Alialani Yamafuji, Kaylie Klausing and Kealoha Scullion in 49.34;
>> Hawaii Baptist’s Madison Moku, with a 14.77 in the 100-meter hurdles;
>> Punahou’s J. Kai Yamafuji (Alialani’s brother), with his already well-known pole vault of 16 feet.
