WOWW!!! WHOEVER WAS THE CENTERPIECE OF THIS SCHEDULING#$%* I believe its got to be thee toughest EVER…the OIA teams going have too really step it up WELL to be the BEST- YOU PLAY THE BEST–then theres a chance to go win every weekGO DARK BLUES-WHITE SOCKS-BLACK SHOES WAIANAE TRADITION

  2. HI HS FAN May 1, 2018 7:23 am

In the 60’s & 70’s, didn’t Waianae have all black uniforms with red helmets? I think was because Coach Ginoza, an Iolani grad, used the same color scheme. Kahuku, which had Red & White with Black trim uniforms & white helmets, were also influenced by Iolani.

  3. HI HS FAN May 1, 2018 7:35 am

With this format all schools need to bring their “A” game every week. It’ll be very competitive and will silence the critics of both the ILH & OIA. Teams will need to be physically ready to handle this schedule. One negative for the OIA schools will be the early part of the season, usually the first two games, because traditionally 4th quarter grades from the previous school year determines player eligibility. Not sure if the ILH schools have the same requirements. Two-a-days and summer camps will be short, as well as control scrimmages. It also looks like pre-season games might be affected , too.

  4. Falcon Future May 1, 2018 7:57 am

Punahou season opener at Kahuku. Punahou season ender at Waianae.

I love it. The Puns are in for shock. I bet a lot of the Punahou families never imagined they would have to play games in those communities.

Of course, except for the ones recruited out of North Shore.

  5. ILH May 1, 2018 8:36 am

Is there a reason why the OIA rcvd home advantage??

  6. Revenue May 1, 2018 9:40 am

The OIA is hosting almost all of the games for the sake of revenue. That agreement had to have played a major role in the two-year pilot. It will be an exciting atmosphere for sure.

  7. AOK May 1, 2018 9:45 am

ILH no more stadiums. Pun, STL, only Kam

    BTW. BEST. REGULAR. SEASON. EVER.

  8. ILH May 1, 2018 10:04 am

True, no home stadiums but not out of options.

They only play once so how do you go about giving one team home advantage?

BTW. Havent you heard? The Recruit card no work anymore for the North Shore. Thank the RR B-Ball team for that.

BTW. I echo your sentiment B>R>S>E!! Cheeee.

  9. Falcon Future May 1, 2018 10:15 am

I think the OIA agreed to this only if they could keep the kala from the tickets. Thats main reason why so many games at the OIA fields and not Aloha Stadium.

Make sense for financials. Schools like Waianae, Campbell, Farrington definitely need the money more than Punahou and Kamehameha.

  10. TooMeke May 1, 2018 11:06 am

I live mainland – IMO there is no other league in the states that compares to this level of competition top to bottom…because leagues here are divided up by school size. TX, CA, FL, AZ, UT, etc… all by size.

Example: The O’Connor team Campbell is playing is either 5A or 6A in AZ – and they’re at the bottom of that league. They would be DII in Hawaii…maybe DI…maybe. Campbell should mop them…and Campbell is tiny by comparison.

Encouraging to finally see appropriate scheduling according to strengths of teams. Agree: BRSE…finally.

No more excuses for anybody (and no, I don’t want to hear about recruiting). Best team wins. End of story. RRFL.

  11. ILH May 1, 2018 11:37 am

    Meke:

    Thought on home field advantage??
For some schools it doesnt matter but places like RR- nation, Millville and West side pride, it plays a huge role in the game.

    Potential asterisk.

  12. Coach C May 1, 2018 3:43 pm

Ok, so it looks like the ILH is not going to challenge each other? OIA has 8 games each, ILH has 6. Huh? ILH will have more rest? HUH?

  13. Something smells fishy May 1, 2018 8:10 pm

ILH-6, OIA-8 Why? The battle of attrition favors the ILH?

  14. Help me understand? May 1, 2018 8:21 pm

ILH only 6 games OIA plays 8 why? The battle of attrition favors the ILH. Not too mention the fact they are not competing against one another head to head. This is a blatant advantage in rest and a shorter season. Giving them time too heal and gear up for the playoffs. Just my opinion, observation?

  15. 808 sports fan May 1, 2018 9:35 pm

Exactly. Would like to see the entire ILH schedule. Right now with them playing less games then theOIA is a shame!

  16. Billy Hull May 1, 2018 10:48 pm

There’s a note at the top of the story.

Note: The ILH vs. ILH games have not been announced yet.

Saint Louis, Punahou and Kamehameha also play each other once adding two games to their schedule to make eight. The ILH just hasn’t said when and where these games will be played yet.

  17. Bu-Lyan May 1, 2018 11:24 pm

Bunch of idiots commentating thinking the ILH doesn’t play each other… only the OIA vs ILH schedule.

  18. Coach C May 2, 2018 6:20 am

    Thanks Billy. Shut it Bu-lynn.

  19. Coach C May 2, 2018 6:31 am

Yeah sorry Bu-lyn, the ILH gotta get all their lawyers together for a meeting then make a decision, then present it to the admin, then have the parents peruse it, then call the Aloha Stadium, then get all the lawyers back to finalize the contract, sign it, then foward 3 copies to the ILH and press release.

  20. ILH May 2, 2018 8:21 am

My man. You cannot even read the article let alone talk about lawyers this and lawyers that.

Its funny how nice Billy put it. I translated it as , ” eh, ding dong, go read the top before you open your mouth”.

Best thing, you get called out on being a ding dong and then go and talk ish about the ILH. I just cannot believe.

Coach C= C stands for Cannot Read.

  21. DARRELL CAVACO May 2, 2018 8:34 am

want to know why the open division is not playing each other is this another set up for the three teams to get in the play the championship play off remember why the ilh split up because only st louis punahoe and Kamehameha was always winning.the best in the oia should play the best in ILH I THINK WE NEED ISLAND CHAMPS THAN MAKE ISLANDSTATE CHAMPIONSHIP,

  22. Praise The Lord!!!! May 2, 2018 9:12 am

Mahalo billy for adding the Note. Because the article didn’t state whether they were going to schedule. Have a great day everyone. God is good! Going be a fun season for Hawai’i football fans.

  23. ILH May 2, 2018 11:21 am

    Period:
a punctuation mark (.) used at the end of a sentence or an abbreviation.

    Question mark:
    a punctuation mark (?) indicating a question.

Punctuation is important. It’s the difference between “Helping your uncle Jack, off a horse” and “Helping your uncle Jack off a horse…”

    – Not Will Ferrell

  24. Coach C May 2, 2018 5:04 pm

The lawyers will negotiate 1.ILH not going to Kahuku,Mililani or Waianae to play. 2.trying to only play on artificial turf.

  25. 88 May 3, 2018 8:51 am

As a fan of the game i love this new format. But i was a parent i would have second thoughts of my kid playing. The toll these games are going to take on these kids bodies are going to be ridiculous. Good luck to everyone playing. I guess our KIDS safety was thrown out the window when the ADULTS decided to make this happen.. Going be some good games though.

  26. 2cents May 3, 2018 5:27 pm

These parents/fans saying that these games are going to take a toll on these kids.

What do you expect it’s football?

There was nothing safe about watching Kahuku beating Radford 64-0 and Cambpell beating Kaiser 71-0. Now that the OIA-ILH did the merge to make it more evenly balanced competition week to week, Now it’s too much for the boys bc there schedule is to tough?

  27. Da blacc panther May 3, 2018 7:52 pm

I agree with what 2cents said. That’s what the off season is for. Train hard to prepare yourself for the gauntlet. No time for feeling sorry for yourself. Football is tough both mentally and physically.

  28. 88 May 3, 2018 9:11 pm

Bro. who the hell did Radford play that year? They played Iolani, Kaiser, Moanalua, Castle, Aiea… The best team they played all year was Kahuku. Now with this new schedule you got the best playing every week. You think Waianae who has to play St. Louis and Kahuku back to back the first two games of the season ain’t going be hurting after? And they still have Mililani, Punahou, Kapolei etc…. left to play. It’s a different animal when you only have maybe one or two games against top programs vs having every game against top programs. Like i said we as fans enjoy but the KIDS suffer.

  29. Da blacc panther May 3, 2018 11:35 pm

Waianae is a straight smash mouth football program. Those boys will be fine. You won’t hear any excuses coming from Coach Walter mouth. I know for a fact that Kahuku and Waianae smash mouth football going take a toll on ILH Defenses. They going have to get use playing against run 1st teams with physical lineman.

  30. TooMeke May 4, 2018 10:05 am

@ILH: it doesn’t matter where teams have to play…either show up, put up, or shut up. End of story.

  31. ILH May 4, 2018 12:37 pm

    Meke:
You right. It doesnt matter. But, if you lose at home, you suck. End of this story.

  32. DownWitThaWestSidePride May 6, 2018 12:04 pm

I love reading these comments. i just buss out my mochi crunch and popcorn . lmao.. WHAT A TOUGH SCHEDULE FOR EVERY OPEN DIVISION TEAM ! As Max says, “BRING ON ANOTHER CUPCAKE.. I NEED A NEW FLAVOR!” But only thing no more cupcakes on this schedule LMFAO! LETS GO WAIANAE !!

  33. Choloropicrin May 8, 2018 8:27 pm

I agree that the run heavy teams like Farrington, Kahuku, Waianae and Kamehameha will take a toll on defenses through out the season.

Mililani is balance but they run the ball well too.

The only cupcakes on the schedule is Kapolei and Campbell.

  34. RKKP May 9, 2018 7:20 pm

Choloropicrin idk about Campbell being a cupcake team. Don’t be surprised if they competing for the title this year. Just my opinion.

  35. ILH May 10, 2018 3:22 pm

Especially with all those recruits they got coming in.

Just like Hawaii Island, there could be a huge explosion in Ewa Beach because all the recruits are displacing community kids that worked their way up, talented and most importantly homegrown.

    Shenanigans, just cant shake em.

  36. hwnstyll May 11, 2018 8:55 am

So Kahuku got Kamehameha and Punahou at home NICE!
Lets hope that there is enough seating for visiting teams fans to watch, all parents and supporters should be able to watch their Ohana play regardless of what executives decide. Does anyone know how many people Kahuku stadium can hold? I mean they take over half of aloha stadium I cant imagine fitting everyone in Laie? No problem about playing at Kahuku but gotta make sure there is room for all people to watch, if not gotta move to Aloha Stadium like they are doing for the St Louis game?

  37. Manoa Frank May 16, 2018 10:55 pm

Open Divisions Games should be played at Aloha Stadium. Many of the ILH-OIA games will exceed 10,000 fans per game. The problems with OIA school campus is security, parking, snack bars, and foremost the restrooms. At 3000-4000 people, these facilities are already stressed. Think of 10,000 or more attending; who is going to be responsible and liable if a problem were to occur ?
