The best team in Oregon football last season is visiting Hawaii for a game against ‘Iolani at Eddie Hamada Field on Aug. 31, according to Raiders coach Wendell Look.
Clackamas went 14-0 a year ago and captured Oregon’s 6A state championship with a 31-30 victory over South Medford.
“They were calling around and emailed me,” Look said Tuesday. “That weekend is the first date mainland schools can play a game.”
‘Iolani went 4-6 in 2017 and nearly made it to the Division II state championship game, but lost 35-27 in a thrilling semifinal against eventual champion Lahainaluna on Maui.
As for the quality of opponent, Look joked, “Hopefully, they graduated everyone.”
Hawaii Prep World is aware of three other games involving Hawaii teams against mainland foes this fall.
>> Aug. 31: Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) vs. Saint Louis, at Aloha Stadium
>> Aug. 31: Damien at Mt. Spokane (Mead, Wash.)
>> Sept. 8: Farrington vs. Carson (Carson, Calif.), at Liberty High School, Las Vegas
Clackamas is no joke… they ain’t no d2 caliber team from Hawaii that’s for sure!!! If iolani does win they definitely don’t belong in d2!
Iolani choosing to stay in DII EVERY year but wants to play a 6A team from Washington?
SMH 😂
lol… recruiting tactic… and still going to get routed. but I’ll cheer for iolani… should be good for maybe a half.
??? Oregon bruddah. Read the article. Never go Iolani I guess? Hahahahaha.
😂😂 Oregon.
Confused them with Damien going Washington!
Mahalo for the correction Keanu🤙🏽
??? Iolani been getting lickings at DI/open for 3 years and last year came in 3rd in ILH DII – you still crying about them dominating DII years ago?
Its good that local brahdahs and sistas take the time to comment about Iolani football which has really diminished in interest (by the student body) over the years. All comments are helpful (positive or not). Just glad Iolani is able to field a team between SAT prep courses and AP Chemistry and that its players are able to walk off the field on their own after each game. Thank God for small favors. Go Raiders.
