For the first time since 2012, the ILH will have three representatives in Division I of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships this year.
Pac-Five, which finished third in the ILH Division II race last year at 7-7, has moved up to Division I this season, giving the league seven teams in D-I and three in D-II.
The league has sent only two teams to the state tournament in Division I in six of the last seven years. Only Mid-Pacific in 2013 and Saint Louis the following year have won a D-I state championship from the ILH since 2010, when Punahou won the last of its seven in a row.
The ILH won nine state titles in a row from 2002 to ’10.
To accommodate the ILH’s third team, the BIIF runner-up and the OIA sixth-place team, which previously had both been guaranteed spots in the tournament, will now play a play-in game.
The state baseball tournament will be held May 8-11 at Les Murakami Stadium and Hans L’Orange Park this year at the same time as the Datahouse/HHSAA Softball State Championships, which will be held at McKinley and Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Get ready for “anywayys” in 3-2-1……….
When Punahou made that run for 7 years straight. That was crazy! It’s too bad Kadooka wasn’t there after that. They probably would’ve won at least 2 more times with KJ Harrison’s year and I’m sure another time after that.
Are you serious! Pac 5 finishing 3rd in D2 wants to compete in D1! You got to be kidding me.
I agree the ILH D1 schools are always talented and competitive and that 3rd D1 ILH school should be in the states but to have Pac5 be the “sacrificial lamb” to justify 3 ILH spots is pathetic. BIIF 2 and Maui 2 should play the “play in game” and allow the OIA (20+ teams) have 6 seeds. Just saying!
What a start to the 2018 Baseball preseason. Tournament hosts Mid Pacific vs Waianae, and a fight errupts. It is uncertain what had caused the commotion, but what a spectacle it was.
Teams and coaches need to hold their players to a high standard. Shame shame.
Last year BIIF 2 played MIL 2 for the state championship. They both deserve 2 teams. Not sure if the OIA deserves 6 teams. Just my opinion.
As for the Waianae vs. MPI game, the teams didn’t fight each other. It was Waianae players fighting amongst themselves. That’s a shame.
Sounds more like it, Waianae look like men, MP look like boys…
Too bad about the fight. From what I understand though … the “boys” beat the “men” 19-2?
That’s the only thing they can Win at…they would lose in the Octagon.
Dont forget about life.
They win in life as well.
Octagon. How about win in school, work, raising kids, and all that other important stuff?

Maybe because they 20 year olds?
Not a hate Waianae moment. Just some of you dont do justice to the humble peeps that come from the west side pride.
Whoa ILH, MP players act like they tough. If this game was in Waianae and had pilikia, we see how them Owls act.
I think every team act tough. But some are so quick to resort to scraps rather than speak with their play.
I dont think its fine to act tough, but, if you back it up by balling thats a different story.
If you acting tough and you losing and then you get sour and like scrap, thats weak.
Unless you can back it up on the field you got nothing to say.
In the Waianae’s team defense, the “altercation” didn’t happen amongst the boys on the team. It happened amongst their fans. Unless someone saw something differently?
If it was a fight in the stands, then it sounds like it was MP and Waianae parents, I ASSUME…
It was fighting amongst just the Waianae parents. Mid-Pac wasn’t even involved. Not sure what the Waianae parents were fighting about though.
MP tough guys! Lol!! MP parents don’t fight they let their attorneys fight for them!
Holds true for Iolani and Puns as well..
Rebel with another intelligent comment.
Did you not get accepted into private school?
Sour grapes.
