1964 prep football all-star teams

Charlie Wedemeyer's greatness has withstood the test of time.

Only one player was a unanimous selection to the Honolulu Advertiser 1964 All-State football team.

Punanhou’s Charley Wedemeyer was the consensus player of the year in both newspapers. Buffanblu teammates Doug Jacobsen and Wayne Sterling were also first-team selections by both newspapers.

The Advertiser had two more Buffanblu players on its first team — tackle Ed Pickering and guard Robert Klein. The Star-Bulletin added Punahou center Fred Hemmings.

McKinley’s Allen Takamori was the other back to make the first team in both newspaper.

OIA champion Kailua dominated the rural all-star teams. The Surfriders had six of the 11 positions on the Advertiser’s team with end Alan Pearson, tackle Dennis Ginden, center Herman Kama and backs Andy Dolan, Wayne Alfonso and James Femia.
