The 2017 Honolulu Star-Advertiser football All-State teams were published on Sunday with Saint Louis quarterback Chevan Cordeiro and Waianae linebacker Kana’i Mauga winning top honors in the state.
You can see the full team here.
As a treat for Hawaii Prep World readers, we counted down to the release of the team by looking at some of the greats of years past.
Because they were so popular, we will keep going and eventually have a list of every all-star team from each year.
Today we go back to 1983 for the tenth year of the Prep Bowl. Both newspapers agreed on the offensive player of the year in Saint Louis quarterback Sean Kinilau. Kalaheo’s Russ Oleyer was the defensive player of the year by the Honolulu Advertiser and the lineman of the year by the Star-Bulletin.
Cal Lee was the coach of the year by the Star-Bulletin but had to share the award in the Honolulu Advertiser with Nanakuli’s Sam Delos Reyes, who is now the athletics director at Campbell.
Former Campbell head coach Amosa Amosa is listed as a starting tackle on the Advertiser first team and UH baseball assistant coach Carl Fraticelli also makes an appearance.
