As the 2017 Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s football All-State team release draws near, periodically we are going to ask a spreadsheet to generate a random number between 1947 and 2016.
Whichever year pops up, we will post that season’s all-star pages here.
2005 was another year with Kahuku left standing, and the Red Raiders were rewarded with seven players on the Honolulu Advertiser’s first team.
B.J. Beatty led the way as the defensive player of the year but Kealoha Pilares of Damien shined just as bright on offense with one of the best single-season rushing performances the state has seen.
The Star-Bulletin chose Punahou’s Jonathan Overton as its defensive player of the year over Beatty.
The papers didn’t agree on coach of the year, either, with the Advertiser going with ‘Iolani’s Wendell Look and the Star-Bulletin selecting Kale Ane of Punahou.
