As the 2017 Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s football All-State team release draws near, periodically we are going to ask a spreadsheet to generate a random number between 1947 and 2016.
Whichever year pops up, we will post that season’s all-star pages here.
Saint Louis was as unbeatable in 1987 as it ever was, with wide receiver Shannon Cabunoc earning offensive player of the year award for the Honolulu Advertiser over guys like Sam Bailey, Adrian Murrell, Erin Hall and Walter Santiago.
The Honolulu Advertiser chose Crusaders linebacker John Correa as the best in the state on that side of the ball. The Star-Bulletin put both Crusaders on its first team but chose Waianae’s Sam Bailey as the back of the year and Eric Gaspar of Kailua as the top lineman.
The Advertiser rewarded Cal Lee for his dominant season but the Bulletin went with Kailua legend Alex Kane.

First Take, you play your senior year in football in the calendar year before you graduate. The Seniors on the 2017 All-Star Team graduate in 2018.
Kalanis OL Nick Fineanganofo. 6’5 250. Starting QB Mark Manzo 6’4 215. Couple yrs later starting TE Hoku Pua 6’5 250. I remember 1990. Went to Kalani vs. Farrington game. Score was tied 7-7 4th quarter. Reeves Abe had over 100yds rushing. Hoku was running guys ova. Eventually the falcons ran outta steam. Hahd luck.
