It has been 10 days since Saint Louis won its second consecutive state championship with a 31-28 win over Kahuku on Aloha Stadium. Although it marked the end of the prep football season in Hawaii, it has not marked the end of football nationwide.
Many states will play their state championship games this weekend, meaning for the continuation of national rankings.
Sunday night, Saint Louis saw its MaxPreps Xcellent 25 ranking jump three spots to No. 17, marking its highest ranking of the season.
The Crusaders are now seventh in the West Region, trailing No. 1 Mater Dei (Calif.), No. 5 St. John Bosco (Calif.), No. 7 Bingham (Utah), No. 13 Corona Centenntial (Calif.), No. 14 Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and No. 15 De La Salle (Calif.).
Mater Dei and St. John Bosco play this weekend in the CIF Southern Section championship game. Ten of the top 25 teams will be playing for either a section or state title.
In the MaxPreps Freeman rankings, which use computer models instead of human votes, Saint Louis is No. 6 after being as high as No. 4 this season.
Saint Louis has yet to crack the USA Today Super 25 that uses voters, but is 10th in the USA Today Super 25 computer rankings.
Would love to see St Louis test themselves against teams like Mater Dei, St.John Basco or
IMG Academy, at their home fields. These teams are put together the same way as the Crusaders. But the ranking of any Hawaii school helps the rest of the schools in the State, especially the Public schools, because of their boundaries of eligibility. Its very rare to see a public school in these rankings due to these rules.
Good for St.Louis. They need to play top 20 USA teams instead of mediocre teams from the mainland. That way they can get even higher at the end of the season. No diss to St.Louis maybe just the whole scheduling thing. I would believe they would have to travel to the best to play the best. California St.Johns Bosco is a start. Anybody know if Taulia”s coming back to Hawaii?
Coach C, if you want to give advice on who St. Louis should play, then show up for fundraising and put in the work. Coach Cal will decide who they should play.
Go back to your Xbox and keep coaching your Madden Team online. That is the closest you will ever get to being a real coach.
Schools like Mater Dei , Img and Bishop Gorman recruit from all over the United States and they don’t pay for tuition. St. Louis don’t recruit. Until you have proof or can drop any names shaddup about recruiting. Don’t bring up the past either because those days are over.
The ILH has always recruited and destroyed communities but they REALLY crossed the line this year when they rigged the state tournament with the refs. I’ve suggested before last year that what the ILH should do is the following: if they want football factory schools, then they should just drop the pretense that they’re even in for the academics.
Here’s my suggestion: Create a power team with the best and finest recruits from every power OIA team in the league. Have them just take online classes instead of wasting their time going to “academic” classes on their campuses. Train them exclusively for football and have them tour the country and play national powerhouses.
Let’s drop the charade that the ILH cares about academics and just fully concentrate on football and football revenue. RRFL!
@anywaaaays…Shaddup already with your bitching and crying….You guys lost so just accept it already…
Anywaays- here’s my suggestion SHADDUP because you don’t know what your talking about.
Yes, poor losers, crying like a little baby, games over, it’s in the books, Saint Louis State Champs, no one will remember who finished second, go Saints.
Anywaays you got it all wrong. If you want somebody to blame for kids leaving their communities to go play for a private school like saint louis or punahou, blame the doe & hsta. If they were REALLY all about the kids & their academics & future & not about themselves & how little they have to do & how much more they can squeeze out of their next contract deal, maybe more kids would stay & play for the schools from where they live.
What parent would turn down a chance for their child to go to a private school on Oahu vs a public school just for the quality of the education they would receive?
Mantai is an example of that. An education from punahou & a degree from Notre Dame outside of football carries way more for his future after football.
And before you continue dissin’ the private schools, get to know the history of red raider football. It’s founding roots can be traced back to an ilh school. Iolani’s Coach Eddie Hamada & kahuku’s Clown Kahuanui is where north shore football all started. Clown & his wife taught at Kahuku & were friends with Coach Hamada & because the doe wouldn’t allocate money to your school Clown reached out to Coach Hamada for equipment for his kids out there. Iolani donated helmets, pads & other equipment to Kahuku so they would have what they needed so that the kids out there had what they needed.
I am not a Iolani alum but a family friend of the Kahuanui family. Clown is in the hof of Hawaii football athletes. His 3 kids went to Kamehameha. His son Lance was a line man for UH during June Jone’s time there. His two daughters teach & coach for Kam & Punahou respectively.
He & his wife taught for years at Kahuku & were truly about academics & education for not only their kids but ALL kids. That’s what its all about.
Sports should be a means to an education whether it be prep or college to give the kids the best their families can provide. Public schools have outstanding graduates but nothing compared to those from private schools on Oahu. Why? Education my friend. Not just athletics.
Do your homework. The name “Red Raiders” is a tribute to a private school in town for their generosity to a public school the doe wouldn’t fund on their own.
Everybody forgets that it should be all about the kids, not the adults. If it was, the revolving door of head coaches out there wouldn’t be. I hope you all keep Coach Freitas for a long time. I am friends with his dad Rockne also a Hawaii hof legend. Let the coaches coach & the kids play. Imho, the doe should give you guys a field like Farrington & McKinley. But don’t hold your breath. Farrington had to wait an eternity to get theirs.
Not a hater but a lover of high school football in Hawaii & a former oia & pop warner coach. We’re blessed with soo much talent out here in the 808. Much thanks to all the parents who sacrifice so their kids can live the dream no matter what school they go to.
Peace
Public school grad C.Lee coach ILH and ILH grads Freitas and York coaching OIA. Lol, gotta love it. Us coaches will do it for the community. It’s in our DNA. Good luck St.Louis players. Make UH proud.
Well said Coach R! We can cheer for our alma mater, but also be happy for the success of all our student athletes. RRFL
@Recruit Dis
St Louis don’t Recruit!!
😂😂😂😂
Yeah and Kahuku don’t have Have Poly players.
@Recruit Dis
St Louis don’t Recruit😂
That’s like saying Kahuku has no Poly players😂
Brah, you are a comedian!!!
?????- name one person on the team. Still waiting…..
Like I told all you haters out there it’s not like the old days at St. Louis anymore but you donkeys don’t listen. You keep assuming that they recruit and all these kids go for free. Go check Tuitele twitter and even he commented about not being recruited because of all you donkeys who keep labeling St. Louis as recruiting. You may not believe it but it’s true.
Recruited or Not Recruited, Any schools that have different rules of eligibility “Public Schools “. should not be playing together. Its a huge disadvantage. You don’t have to attend a private school to understand this.
Eyeswideshut- yes it’s true but it’s just like saying kaiser can’t compete with kahuku, Waianae ,mililani and most power house. There not on the same level playing field because the community in those areas aren’t as big as the power schools. Kaiser isn’t the only school either that can’t compete in division 1 on a consistent basis. Just look at all the blow out scores last year.
Recruit Dis….Yes I agree,And that’s where you have division 1 and division 2…All public schools…You can schedule to play an ILH team in the Pre-season or during your bye week, if your school choses to do so…
@Recruit Dis
As soon as cal Lee came back he recruited Isaac matautia from kaiser & Jordan Iosefa from Waipahu and even tried to recruit Vae Malepeai back to stl from Mililani. 😂😂😂
Deny till you die. Lol
Stl won states already, let it go!! 😂
????- didn’t I say don’t bring up the past. Let’s talk about now. Who you got? Still waiting. This team went undefeated and went thru both top oia without recruiting. I know everyone on the team so lmk when you got some names.
When the recruit from Alabama shows up as a first year senior, then can we squash this recruit tit tat? Yo, but it all good.
Sooo True😂😂
Are you sure they recruit or because of the tradition of winning, kids just want to go there. Look at Kahuku a few years back, there was kicker from Florida who transferred to Kahuku just to play football, why because they were winning…..but yet all you forget that.
Also Stop your crying you Kahuku people, no system is perfect! So they LOST get over it!!! Train hard and maybe next year. I bet if Kahuku won all you would do is boast and rub it in everyone’s face that Kahuku won….but since you lost all you guys do is make excuses! But I will tell you that will not get better playing against the Radford’s, Nanakuli’s, or Castle’s of the OIA…..No disrespect to the athletes from these schools.
Okay…So St.Louis doesn’t recruit ,but it still doesn’t change the fact that they have a different set of rules concerning where the kid lives and resides. These are the rules Public schools have to abide by. Until the HHSSA changes these rules the Private Schools will have a Big advantage, especially St.Louis because unlike Kamehameha and Punahou you don’t need to be Hawaiian or pass a real test..
Eyeswideshut- oia does recruit its called GE or use your aunties address. Tell me you never knew about that. Wow don’t have to pass a real test why don’t you go check how many graduates go to college. At the end of the day it sucks knowing St. Louis don’t recruit and they went undefeated winning the state championship going thru the top two oia teams . DEAL WITH IT and stop making excuses. They deserve the win because they earned it so STOP crying like babies and be good examples for the younger generation so they don’t turn out like you cry babies.
Recruit Dis…Obviously you’re here to create an argument. You can have this blog.. Enjoy..
Eyeswideshut- obviously since this blog is about St. Louis climbing the national ranks and all you guys do is cry and whine about why there doing so good. Give me a break. Just like your parents taught you if you got nothing nice to say SHADDUP!
First of all, “Coach R,” how about you start treating Coach Kahuanui with respect instead of calling him a clown?
And nothing in your ranting contradicts the fact that the video evidence is incontrovertible: The tournament was rigged, the refs were biased, and forever, this state championship bought by Saint Lulu will have an asterisk next to it.
I guess with Saint Lulu, if you can’t beat us with recruiting, you gotta beat us with the officiating. But it’s cool though. Enjoy your “championship.” We’ll be back next year. RRFL!
suck it up Kahuku fans, have Kahuku join the ILH next year, see if you can go undefeated in that league, probably not. don’t play a preseason game with a Mainland team, cause you have not won on the Road yet.
Anywaays- the only asterisk going have is on your forehead because your the biggest loser from kahuku. Better luck next year and if kahuku don’t win I can’t imagine what kind of excuses your going to come up with.
All the non-believers go to Laie park or some big boys football game and watch stl/Punahou talk, beg, ask, whatever you wanna call it for stud players to come to their schools. Any person with common sense calls it “Recruiting”
Just live with it, it’s life…
Recruit dis; bumbye u learn!
?????- till you give me some names stop crying. All you doing is making false accusations to make you feel better. Ah C’mon! Bumbye U learn.
There are certainly fixes needed in various areas of Hawaii HS athletics. After all is said and done, it’s all about our kids learning to reach for a better future. Living in Texas for over 35 years, I see so much resources that our kids back home do not have access to. For me, when I see a kid from Hawaii on any roster in the mainland, I’m an instant fan. I hope for their success on and off the field. I also brag on Hawaii football wherever I go. Congratulations to the Crusaders. Job well done. Congratulations to Hilo and your entire community. For this old Red Raider, when you leave Hawaii…we are one. We rep Hawaii as one. And, we love our kids that has found opportunity to elsewhere just as much as if they stayed home. It’s the Red Raider way.
The Skull…Larry, is that you? RR OG……
Red Raider Alumni…io…malo aupito. We will be back….bet on it.
Speak a English lol
I would like the name of at least five boys who were recruited to SLS. There are enough boys on the team that you should be able to come up with at least five recruited players. I don’t feel that SLS would need to recruit. Who wouldn’t want to go to school there?
