Saint Louis moves up a spot in MaxPreps rankings

The MaxPreps computers, which had Saint Louis at No. 4 in the country last Sunday, have the Crusaders at No. 5 this week after a 31-28 victory over Kahuku that ended Sunday morning at Aloha Stadium in the Open Division final of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships.

The MaxPreps Xcellent 25, which is the poll that uses human votes for its rankings, moved the Crusaders up a spot to No. 20 this week.

Saint Louis became the second ranked team to win a state title, a day (or two) after Bingham (Utah) won the Utah 6A state championship with a 27-14 win over East High.

The Miners, who won their fourth state title in the last five years and beat every team they played by at least 13 points, shut out Kahuku 17-0 in September. Bingham moved up a spot to No. 8 this week.

The Crusaders (10-0), who finished off their first undefeated season since 1996, beat the Red Raiders in a thriller. The big difference between the Bingham and Saint Louis victories over Kahuku, however, is the Red Raiders had their starting quarterback, Sol-Jay Maiava, available for the Saint Louis game. Maiava threw four touchdown passes against Saint Louis after missing the Bingham game with an injury.

Saint Louis is No. 8 in the West region behind teams that include No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 14 Bishop Gorman (Nev.), which beat Kahuku 35-7 last season.

Saint Louis’ big nonconference win was a 56-50 victory over Narbonne (Calif.), which is now 8-3. The Gauchos lost to Long Beach Poly, 14-10, and No. 5 Centennial (Calif.), 52-6, before the loss to Saint Louis at Aloha Stadium.

Since then, Narbonne has rolled off six straight wins, averaging 58.7 points per game in those victories.

The CIF Southern Section Open Division tournament is the one to watch with Centennial playing No. 7 St. John Bosco this week and No. 1 Mater Dei, which beat Long Beach Poly 55-13 on Friday, taking on No. 15 Mission Viejo.

St. Louis should come to CA next year and play De La Salle again. Slim chance of DLS flying to Hawaii, as we all know that took the grace of God to make happen last time. Gonna have to schedule them later in the season though, as the CIF football season starts a few weeks after HHSAA. If Kahuku can travel to play Bingham in Utah, Punahou can travel to San Diego to play Serra & Mililani can travel to play Clayton Valley (which is literally about 10 minutes from De La Salle) I think it’s more than possible for St. Louis to make the trip as well. At this point in both programs history, I think it would make for an amazing game. SLS AD should get on the horn with the DLS AD now, before they start putting the 2017-18 schedule together. Make it happen… 🤙🏽

Sooo… we lost on a hail mary to the #4 team in the nation that was stacked with Seniors starting…

And our team was mostly Underclassman starters in the first year of an offensive scheme that’s built around the best QB in the state…who is only a sophomore?

I don’t who we will be playing against in the Ship next year – but that’s where we will be!

    CHEEEEEEHUUUUUUU!! RRFL.

    Hi Billy,
I think the Kahuku vs Bishop Gorman score was 35-7.

  5. Too Meke 2 November 20, 2017 8:29 am

Hail Mary? What game were you watching? There was like 40 or more seconds. The wideout has single coverage and the ability theew it to him.

A Hail Mary is where all the receivers and DB’s converge to one area and the qb throws the ball up for grabs to the large group waiting.

    Damn you’re dumb.

  6. Recruit dis November 20, 2017 9:41 am

Toomeke- Hail Mary is how you guys beat Waianae. Close your eyes and throw it in the end zone.

  7. Billy Hull November 20, 2017 9:52 am

Tim, you’re right. Thanks for the heads up.

  8. Fan of the Game November 20, 2017 10:34 am

Hail Mary is pure luck. What Cordeiro and Panoke did was pure skill and grit. Chevan threw it to his best option on that play and Panoke intelligently went up to battle for it and won. Where is the luck in that?

  9. Bu-Lyah November 20, 2017 12:02 pm

    @ShanFernan
That would be an awesome game to watch between DLS vs STL. But STL would definitely have to travel to Cali, but then again i’m not sure what STL financial situation is like, but I know it’s not good to provide that kind of trip with a 100 kids on roster. Especially with the reputation that STL has traveling to the mainland. *Cough Cough Vegas incident. ANYWAY haha, but DLS could come to Hawaii, BUT as of late every school they schedule with requires the school to pay for their whole trip from flights to room and board. But it would be an epic game to watch. Hope it happens

  10. Dafun November 20, 2017 12:24 pm

Billy, can you please ban toomeke? Here he is complaining about every St Louis thing causing problems with everyone on here. He gotta go. Plus he’s literally an idiot and everyone agrees even Kahuku fans.

  11. stacey November 20, 2017 2:56 pm

dont think STL is on the same level as DLS umless DLS is having an off season. island bias i guesss

  12. TrojanFan4Life November 20, 2017 4:09 pm

Couple of guys touched on it already….so when Kahuku loses its a hail mary…when they win its a pass. Kahuku beat Mililani and Waianae with a pass people, not a hail mary!!!

  13. Toomeke November 20, 2017 4:55 pm

First time I ever heard of a pass in the red zone called a Hail Mary. What kind babogum street football you guys play??

    LMAAAAAAOOOOOOO!!!!

  14. Recruit dis November 20, 2017 5:29 pm

Watch the replay again and you’ll see that a real QB don’t throw a pass like that in the Waianae game. It’s called a prayer.

  15. Lanzi Shores Thompson November 20, 2017 5:32 pm

Your story is so revelling in the sense that I can tell you just indulge in the belittling of a Kahuku team, who quite frankly as of late is the reason you’re posting this whoopy doo story. Yeah that’s right, without our national recognition since the turn of the century, we’ve been running this state. And now you feel the need to belittle a Kahuku school that is tied for being one of only a few high schools with the most ACTIVE players playing on CURRENT NFL teams. A Kahuku school who, under the most shittiest of shittiest football fields in the state (which by the way can double as a swimming pool when it rains hard and our track becomes inundated with reddish-brown dirt water, or also a very great way for athletes running our dirt track to sprain or break their ankles) can relish in such an injury waiting to happen type of environment and still boast the most, and I will repeat, the most active current National Football League players of any high school in the nation. Cut that crap out with your maybe unbeknownst to you egotistical attitude and have some dignity and pride for all schools partaking in these games. You wouldn’t like it if someone was belittling your high school now would you? Didn’t think so. Clean up your writing please, and entertain all teams involved in these games equally, your getting paid for this. Thank you and have a nice night.

  16. anywaaaays!! November 20, 2017 7:55 pm

Just stop. It was a lucky throw and a lucky sequence of events aided and abetted by EXTREMELY biased play calling by refs who were most likely bought out by Cal Lee and Saint Lulu. The refs gave them the game. A lucky throw made Saint Lulu take home the W.

    deal with it.

    RRFL!

  17. anywaaaays!! November 20, 2017 8:02 pm

recruitdis/trojanfan4life/dafun/toomeke2 = Education First. Irrationally hating on Kahuku to further the ILH Agenda.

This year’s state title will always have an asterisk by it for the rigged refs and the hail mary.

So sad because kahuku football boys play respectful and with good attitude. It’s some of their fans that ruin it for them. Sooooooo sad that even they don’t make excuses when they lose. All you loser kahuku fans should read sol jays interview now that’s How you take a loss and learn from it to get better not make excuses and whine about it.

  20. RR4Cry November 21, 2017 12:34 am

If you guys had Vae Tata you would’ve won. Plenty talent running around with no head. You guys need better coaching. There’s another excuse for you to use. Too bad, so sad!

  21. BleedRed November 21, 2017 1:02 am

So sad to see people from our Red Raider community still whining and complaining about the game,it’s just a game people,it’s not the end of the world, stop with the childish excuses.Yeah we lost, suck it up,it’s always the adults complaining after a loss, never the kids. The refs missed calls on both sides, game over.Congrats Crusaders and Big Red on giving us an awesome performance and being humble regardless of the outcome, can’t say the same for a lot of the adults in our community. On a side note,I think it was 06-07,not current active players for Kahuku in NFL.RRFL,come back stronger next year!!!!!

  22. Too Meke 2 November 21, 2017 10:01 am

What’s classic is anywaaays calling out anyone for using multiple names.

But in reality Paul Honda exposed him using several usernames and also having an IP address originating in Waialua.

He’s such a fraud. But he’s needed on this site. I need someone to laugh at.

    Anywaaays/toomeke/88

  23. Too Meke 2 November 21, 2017 10:09 am

@Lanzi Shores Thompson, maybe you should use that anger and direct it at the academics and families in Kahuku. You bitch and moan at the most insignificant things. You should bitch about the state of academics at Kahuku. The math scores show that the kids can barely count. The ELA scores show many cannot read.

The role models teach the children to make excuses and not take accountability which means the status quo will continue to happen and not much positive change will happen.

So keep whining, winning football titles every 2-3 years, and putting in 1-2 kids into the NFL while the other thousands live in misery and on welfare.

You guys should be thanking the rest of the state for paying your welfare and providing families with EBT. You know the hard working families that you insult but still pay taxes that allow you and your families to survive.

A simple thank you would suffice.

  24. Billy Hull November 21, 2017 2:44 pm

The person posting as anywaaaays!! has also posted as BG Grad, NOkimoto and once as 88.

We are going to start banning people who use different names.

  25. Lanzi Shores Thompson November 21, 2017 6:59 pm

@Too Meke 2, I should bitch and moan at the state of our academics?! No, it’s bitch I should continue to moan for what the hell I know is right, while you sit on your high horse like you think your the state data analyst for welfare recipients.

And Wtf does education have a fuck to do with the success of our student-athletes? And for that matter, what business is it of yours, if you actually feel you have any because you’re so quick to jump the gun on this particular issue as if it’s a sore foot in your mouth with us. Why do you care? You’re not irrelevant to our kids and what they do with their lives. So mind yours, niele. I’ve heard enough people like you @Too Meke 2 try and bash Kahuku High School for it’s academics. Yet fail to realize Kahuku offers the same education very other school does, including the ILH. It’s called AP Classes. So how does that make your school any better? Furthermore, it’s none of, I repeat, none of your guys business what grades any of athletes get, you’re not the ones handing out the diplomas to them when they GRADUATE. So move the f along! And while your nonsense of a response justifies that not one oz. of your clear cut Red Raider hating ass is capable of providing FACTUAL EVIDENCE, Let me say it again, EViDENCE, to support your claims. Everything I read from your comment didn’t make sense. And here you come riding your jigsaw, tricycle-riding ass into Red Raider territory, acting like you know the tally of EBT and Welfare dependent families cause you swearrrrrr you the state data analyst for that. Bitch, EBT exists in every community in this state. So you’re going to tell me you’re going to go valaau your pilau wâha to every member in every community on this Island about the EBT they using and trash talk those people too? Bitch are you dumb? What you need to do is pump your breaks with your story-telling, no good, drama starting ass. Do you even think about the things that is coming out of your mouth? Obviously not. But it’s disgusting. Like your ignorance. Now scram punk. #YOUREIrreleVanceiSHurtingMyEars #HaveaSeat #ANDdontBETooMeek2 #BeforeYouSleeplol #GoodnightMeekymeeky

  26. Coach A November 21, 2017 7:34 pm

@ShanFernan, with St.Louis 125 man roster, 40 coaches,30 staff trainers etc. St.Louis would go broke just booking a flight to Maui let alone Cali. With transfer, room etc.etc. The bill would be over $200k.

  27. Dafun November 21, 2017 8:26 pm

Billy Hull please I’m begging you ban toomeke aka anyways! Aka 88. I’ve never known a 50 year old guy to become a keyboard warrior with a bunch of people literally half his age than that guy

  28. Too Meke 2 November 22, 2017 8:00 am

@lanzi shore Thompson, you’re joking right? “Wtf does education have a f _ _ k to do with the success of our student athletes?”

Cmon you are jokin right? The kids are there for school right?

And don’t you mean I’m not relevant to the your kids and what they do with their lives. You said “you’re not irrelevant” which means I’m important to them. Hahahha! You’re trying to be academic and cannot! That’s so classic!

Kahuku does not offer the same academics as other schools. Are you crazy? Here are the latest scores as reported from US News:

    College Readiness – 18.0
    Mathematics Proficiency – 23%
    English Proficiency – 31%

These scores suck and you’re saying Kahuku has the same education? What are you smoking? Pass it on, cuz your stuff must be great to make you this disillusioned.

So here is evidence. It’s scientific data showing just how bad the academics are over there. If you need more data on the poverty level, annual median income, free and reduced lunch, special education students, etc., please let me know and I can provide that too.

You are calling me dumb yet you can barely compose an academic response.

    1) You often cannot create a complete sentence .
    2) Your spelling is atrocious.
    3) Your writing lacks organization, you ramble off on tangents that do not connect.
    4) You change the parts of speech even thought you are the only person writing.
    5) You make assumptions with no empirical evidence to support your claims.

I can keep going on but I think the general audience gets the point on how dumb you are.

If the point of your piece was to demonstrate the high level of academics at Kahuku, you have failed greatly.

Please do back to school and work harder to fix all of the above. You can do it.

  29. Too Meke 2 November 22, 2017 8:04 am

@Lanzi Shores Thompson, of course everything I wrote doesn’t make sense. Based on you’re writing it shows that you lack a high level of comprehension and thinking. So any sentence that uses multi syllabic words would challenge you, hence your lack of understanding to the piece I posted.

I challenge you to offer any scientific data that dispels what I wrote.

Like I said, please take school seriously.

  30. 88 November 22, 2017 11:30 am

There is only one 88. HPW can verify the IP address. Maybe you need to start banning the other guys from posting already instead of making threats.
