Justice Sueing, a 6-foot-7 forward, is averaging 13 points and 4.5 rebounds per game after two contests as a freshman with the Cal Bears.
Sueing played in high school at Marynoll before transferring to Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) to finish out his career.
He is the son of former Hawaii star Justice Sueing, who played for Rainbows in the mid-1990s.
Sueing scored 14 points with five rebounds, an assist and three steals in a 74-64 loss to UC Riverside on Friday. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal in an 85-82 win over Cal Poly on Sunday. He is 7-for-14 from the field and 12-for-13 from the free-throw line.
Sueing played 25 minutes off the bench against the Highlanders and then started and played 29 minutes against the Mustangs.
Cal will play in the Maui Invitational next week in Lahaina.
By 2019, there will be at least 8 players that I can think of with strong Hawai’i ties playing D1 basketball:
Samuta Avea – Hawai’i
Daniel Fotu – St. Mary’s
Kamaka Hepa – Texas
Hugh Hogland – Portland
Marcus Shaver – Portland
Glen “Tolu” Smith – Western Kentucky
Justice Sueing – Cal
Jessiya Villa – Hawai’i
808 state has never been well represented like this in Division 1 basketball!
