So Iolani with a losing record gets in again.
Iolani will always qualify for the DIi State Tournament because the ILH only has them and PAC-5 as DII teams. The only way PAC-5 can get in is if they beat Iolani during the season.
Thought the oia opted out of the open division?
At first, the OIA announced it would only be participating in Division I and Division II at the state tournament level.
The HHSAA state football committee went to work to find a compromise. Eventually, it was worked out that the OIA (still adamant about playing in only two divisions) would play in the Open (which was renamed to Division I-Open) and Division II.
Punahou in need of a new coaching staff, for an example. Take out Kale son. The senior class were unlucky to have their season end behind his “OC”. Lots of great coaches, but cant do anything without the son crying to his dad, kale !!! Feel bad for the kids. Lots of talent on the team.
The OIA really messed up with their opposition of the Stare tournament. You are sacrificing the six extra teams that could have been in the tournament and getting those kids some exposure. All because you wanted 1 less ILH team in the tournament, that’s like cutting off your left hand to spite your right hand. You clowns running the OIA better get it together because right now it’s not about the kids.
Kelii 12 of the 14 OIA teams make it to the OIA playoffs. That is pretty much a 90% chance that your OIA team gets into the post season. If you want to advance to the State tournament then you have to earn it, as in “be good enough to win”.
Assuming that Kahuku and Mililani are the top 2 teams from the OIA to enter the State tournament would mean that Campbell and Waianae are going to battle for that last 3rd spot. Mililani and Kahuku smashed both of those schools in the regular season and will mostlikely smash them again this coming week as MIlilani vs. Waianae, and Kahuku vs. Campbell is slated for this weekends games.
No one wants to see Kahuku or Mililani smash Waianae/Campbell a third time in the State tournament, its almost like giving teams 3 chances to fight for a title. Football is a contact sport and injuries occur every game, no need to see repetitive and meaningless games.
ps* If you child is being denied a chance to compete in the state tournament because he plays on a junk team, well then do what most other parents are doing, transfer your kid to a school that has a higher chance of winning.

Well believe it or not but most of ILH D2 would actually beat OIA D1 teams, it just sucks for the teams because they cannot compete with D1 so they must be put into the bracket of D2
Then what he and you are saying is wrong. There are good teams in the D2 just that most of the D2 teams in the OIA should be considered D3 and some of those lower D1 teams should be dropped down.
In this case 4-5 is better than 9-1 because of the strength of schedule.
We just need to see them play each other instead of ILH or OIA in the regular season. This way everyone earns their way into states. Let’s see your ILH division II teams battle the big boys of the OIA and see if they can reach the end without injuries after getting hit by the big boys. Last time I watched iolani play a team like Farmington, the receivers didn’t want anything to do with catching a ball because of what was to come, and passing is a big part of their game. So let’s get the people who run this make next year a season where ILH plays OIA teams all season and earn their way into playoffs instead of getting in by politics. Guys in charge of states probably ILH alum anyways and want to bolster student numbers zoo that’s why they do their best to glorify their sports teams.
Not a great example, but I agree with merging leagues. I consider the Govs to be an Open team. Iolani, a D1 team and remember this is by state tournament designations.
We should gather data on the amount of injuries in the OIA and the ILH and also when they go ahead and really get an accurate picture of what you are talking about. I hear a lot of people use this argument but there really isnt sufficient information to back it up. BTW, have you seen the players on St. Lulu, Kam and Punahou?? They are big boys, and according to “recruiting conspirator theorists” , they are the cream of the crop. So I think,can the OIA guys mix with the overall team size, strength, speed, power, IQ and great coaching week in and out. Ill be honest, only the RR, MIllville, Gov, Hurricanes, Seariders, Sabers and possibly the mules can.
How does one get into the playoffs through politics?? Last I saw, there is a system, in the OIA and the ILH by how one gets into the state tournament.
And it was the OIA who is responsible for this years state tournament format. If there was a merge, you also run the chance of more ILH teams in the state tournament. What if, at the end of the season, you have RR, Pun, Kam, Lulu in the top 4. Imagine that.

Iolani lost all of their games last year by wide margins while competing in the ILH division 1. Then they beat Moanalua, smashed Campbell and eventually lost to dirty Mililani by 11 points in the 2016 HHSAA State Championship game. This year Iolani starts 14 sophomores. OIA teams (except Kahuku) are pretty bad. Clowns like 88 and No moa $3 clearly miss this point. Pac 5 would beat most of the OIA Div 2 schools and St. Francis would crack Pearl City and Waipahu. Lahainaluna and Hilo would beat all the OIA schools except Kahuku and maybe Mililani who poached their best RB and LB from Farrington. The OIA is pathetic and they rig all the HHSAA tournaments. Iolani and Kamehameha in Girls State Volleyball final and Iolani and Punahou in the Boys State basketball final again. Go Private Schools beat the OIA scrubs
Mililani may have recruited their RB and LB, but ILH recruits their ENTIRE TEAM. I’ve seen it. Their coaches come to La’ie and literally grab the kids out of our yards, turn them against our own families and communities, and tell the parents lies like “with this scholarship money, your kid will have a better future.” Let’s not even talk about all the other “benefits” these kids get. The ILH agenda is corrupt and we need to throw all of the dirty private “schools” out of the state tournament.
The so-called “brain trust” in charge of OIA Athletics should think about losing OIA/ILH stigmas and just go with Division I/Division I I. You wouldn’t need playoffs, unless there are ties in win/loss record. Then the two top teams in Division I/Division I I play for championship in their Division. Bring back the Thanksgiving Day doubleheader for the Championship games.
Since there are only 4 teams in the open division. I’m curious to see how the seedings will be if kahuku beat Mililani in the oia championship. Would the committee put st.louis #1 and Kahuku and Mililani do a rematch in the 1st round?
By right it should be #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3.
Saint Louis should be the #1 seed being that they are currently undefeated and ranked number one in the state. Campbell or Waianae should be #4. Never seen a state tournament where every team goes straight into the semis.

It’s settled. St. Louis is getting the OIA runner up. If st. Louis can repeat they deserve to be called the best team in the state!
If the private schools played their skinny and scrawny real students whose families are able to afford their tuition dollars not recruit all of the beasts that would go to public schools, I think they wouldn’t even let their kids play football. Period! If they did, they probably would have one or two legitimate players, but everyone else would be scrubs and get hurt. Then their parents would sue. Recruiting is a tool for enlarging their student body. People who can afford it would love to send their kids to a school with a powerful, winning football team,year after year. This is just business and politics. Let the ones who can’t afford it play at their respected public school and then let’s see if the ILH is anybody.
First and foremost ILH isn’t your daddy’s league so stop worrying about it, second if your team isn’t playing in the post season I strongly advise you send them to Iolani because that school is and are for smart students who need help on their football team and they are always playing in the state playoffs because they are smart they applied to play in D2 knowing that Damien will apply to play in the Division1 playoffs because they think they can beat a more stronger and talented Saint Francis. If you would like your smart student athlete to play in the post seasons with a loosing record then “PAY FOR IT.” I hate complaining parents that don’t just move their child!
I’m glad there are others here who see the ILH agenda for what it is: a concerted effort by the private schools, HHSAA, and even the biased media to destroy the public school system and steal our kids away from our very communities. Craaazy is absolutely correct. Without the ILH recruiting machine that brainwashes kids and parents, the ILH would be nothing in the one thing in high school that really counts: football.
Let the nerdy scrawny rich kids play football and see how fast they get pounded by big red. Keep them in the classroom and they can do whatever they want, like study or be concerned with “grades.”

North shore, you must not read the news. OIA opted not to send anyone in the DI title game.

OIA threw a fit and decided to only send teams to Open and D2. The did it to themselves.
This open tournament is joke and is rigged to for the benefit of OIA! Last year made the most sense. If OIA won last year then there would not have been any changes made. It should be based off the current state rankings. No matter what someone going grumble!
The state playoffs setup is exactly like your lives, it’s flawed and not perfect, which you have absolutely no control over it so don’t worry about it. What you do have control over is where your child can play, so my advice is to not worry about recruiting because every school does it you may not know it but every coach who talks to another student athlete always extends an invitation to join his campaign trust me it’s a natural instinct, ask Kahuku Coaches, who has an open door policy to players from out of state. Fact is, if your school isn’t preforming with its local community student athletes then either change your Coaches or recruit better talent. Stop worrying and complaining and start doing something!
Don’t you dare talk any kind of crap about Kahuku and recruiting. WE DON’T RECRUIT. Homegrown talent = homegrown results. We have pride in La’ie not like the ILH agenda.

Unfortunately, you guys are stuck with your head your asses. If a child wants to get a higher education and is asked to play at a private school, more power to them. It’s an opportunity. Just like a job opportunity. That’s like knocking someone for turning down a job promotion or job relocation.
If it gets them a good education and more exposure then what the hell, let them play. Football is just a tool, and if these so called recruited athletes want to use it to get them a good education and maybe get into a good college, then all the power to them. Parents have to make sacrifices to send the kids to a private school. Parents that send their kids to a private school make those sacrifices so that their kids can succeed!
As far as blaming the schools for recruiting and complaining about them “stealing ” your kids, why are you not complaining about the parents that allow the kids to leave you schools??? Ultimately its the parents decision, the schools are just offering them an opportunity.
Maybe gotta discontinue district exemptions, since u guys like say u like dem play in their own district! How u going act when da states leading rusher was suppose to play for aiea but ends up playing in Mililani. They should redraw the lines for the districts and not allow district exemptions. Cause das how OIA recruits!! Only OIA team the plays with real home talent is Nanakuli, Waianae and Waialua! Das da real homegrown teams!

I love high school football. Especially post season. Mililani,St.Louis and Kahuku are the top 3 program in the State at this point. Kahuku vs.Mililani in two weeks. Loser play St.Louis week after. Then the two winners play for the State. Waianae/Campbell winner is just fluff. It’s a good system. Sort of a “open” league with 3 top teams..

I will say this…I graduated over 10 years ago from st Louis and I spent half of 7th grade at Jarrett in Palolo. Now there was this Tongan kid who was a troublemaker but had good size. When I went to st Louis and was playing on the vars team, this kid magically landed up in kahuku playing. So you tell me how the hell did he go from palolo housing to kahuku football? He doesn’t just magically move there for football if it weren’t for something. Along with Micah Strickland as well. Yeah his family lived on that side but he was living in town going to punahou. So explain that

He lived with his “Uncle”. If mom and Dad do not live in the Kahuku district that’s recruiting in my book. All these salty balls Kahuku posters are just mad because St. Lulu used to work them in the 80s and 90s. Now they gotta hate so their kids don’t end up losers like them.
The D1 Open State playoffs will probably be #1 vs. #3 and #2 vs. #4. Why? St. Louis will be seeded #1. The OIA Champion will be #2 and the runner-up #3. The OIA third-place team, obviously, will be #4. The HHSAA wouldn’t want to see the teams who just played for the OIA championship play in the state semifinals. So if this happens, St. Louis (#1) will play the Mililani-Kahuku loser (#3). The Mililani-Kahuku winner(#2) will play the Campbell-Waianae winner (#4).
So, based on the above information, the #2 seed has an easier chance of getting to the finals than the #1 seed. Something doesn’t seem right. Thats what happens when you only have 4 teams in a state tournament. Flawed!!
Now why would the #1 seed have a tougher game then the #2 seed. That’s what happen when you have a bunch of donkeys running the show. Just like everything else in this state we are going backwards. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that 1 should play 4 and 2 vs 3 just like any other tournament that has 4 teams in it. If not they shouldn’t seed the teams and just say ILH champ plays #2 oia.
IolaniI is over rated year after year. They lose to the top two teams in their division and yet make the playoffs? Rubbish. Last year’s wins against OIA teams were against teams that are not as good this year, in fact they were on the bottom of the open division. You say they get in because they’re smart, I say people who run states are corrupt and probably your alumni. The two top teams that beat them will probably be ranked lower than them after the season ends even if they lose to Lahainaluna. It’s just the way it is. Over rated rubbish, year in, year out. You say they can hang with the big boys, let them play with the bog defensive lines of the public schools and see if your quarterbacks and receivers can make it to the end. They couldn’t do it when they play division I, and cannot do it now at their division II, and still will be over rated. I’m gonna enjoy watching Lahainluna kill your team.
