Final play of the half, Kapolei’s pass rush has Maiava dead to rights near the Kahuku sideline, but he maneuvers a circle and eludes defenders, gets back to the middle of the field and somehow finds Duke Heffernan in the back of the end zone for a 21-yard TD. Amazing. Maiava is 15-for-24, 149 yards, one TD and no picks in the first half. I believe that’s a career-high for pass attempts in a first half by the sophomore. That was just crazy, resilient and poised.
First play from scrimmage after the kickoff, another interception thrown by Faoa. Kaonohi Kaniho picks it off on a post route, Kahuku ball with :48 left in the half.
Kahuku 21, Kapolei 7, 1:06, 2Q
Toalei Lefau punches it over from 2 yards out moments after a pick by Ratu Tuisavura. That’s the second pick by the Red Raiders.
Kahuku 14, Kapolei 7, 5:00, 2Q
Nawahine scores on a 2-yard TD run.
Kahuku O-line pounding away.
Kahuku 7, Kapolei 7, 8:17, 2Q
Lonenoa Faoa’s deep post pass to Isaiah Ahana is tipped, bobbled and caught for a crazy 25-yard TD.
The first quarter ends with Kahuku flat its 25.
No. 2 Kahuku 7, No. 10 Kapolei 0, 2:11, 1Q
Enoch Nawahine races around left end for a 4-yard TD. Big Red getting some resistance from Kapolei, but winning the. Battle of the Trenches.
Kapolei three and out. Punt out at the KPO 30.
Kahuku receives the opening kickoff and drives to the Kapolei 45 before stalling. Punt to the 5, personal foul on Kahuku.
Pre-game
Conditions are near perfect. Clear skies, though it drizzled earlier. Trade winds 5-15 mph. The JV game was a defensive battle. Kahuku won 8-6 despite fumbling deep in its territory with less than 2 minutes left. Kapolei scored on a bootleg, but the 2-point conversion failed. Kahuku ran out the clock — barely. In the victory formation with :20 left, the snap dribbled on the ground all the way back to the Kahuku 10-yard line, where Kapolei nearly recovered.
The varsity kickoff will be somewhere around 7:45 p.m. Game is televised, so there will be the usual delay before kickoff, plus 90-second TV timeouts.
Recruit more, kapolei. maybe then you have a chance to beat us. HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHA. RRFL!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!! I going win my bet… we win by 21+
Next thing we going start hearing: “just wait until you play da TROJANS”… yeah…bring them on…
Hurricanes, Trojans, Crusaders…blah blah blah…
BIG RED!!!
All jokes aside Kapolei is way too talented to be playing like this.
The sad thing is that half the Kahuku players and coaches cant even count as high as the points Kapolei scored.

anywaaays, is Waialua playing? Man stop frontin’

Kahuku’ D is big, athletic and fast. I don’t think anyone on the OIA side can beat them imo, as they say defense wins championships. They have just enough offense to get them the win. I hate to say it, and the Kahuku faithful will stone me, but Sol Jay is an athlete who should be playing safety or running back. He doesn’t look comfortable back there and his passes were off all night.
In my opinion I feel disgust, because Kapolei has lot of talented around the football, and it was a complete waste. Aaron need to recruit more players, that not good enough. This season for Kapolei was disppointed, miscommunication, ineligible players, and Coach staff issue. I expect more out of Kapolei this season, but it was completely different. Now you got seniors in the front seven that is leaving. But the good news is that they still got there 2 QB, and 2 Studs WR next year. This offseason needs lot of adjustments.
I can’t wait to see Kahuku and Mililani play each other. Hopefully Waianae won’t spoil somebody’s plan.
Classy as expected RR fans. Again it always blows my mind how the most successful football program has the biggest crybabies and poor sport winners out of any high school football program I’ve every heard of
Haha talking about next year already…??? It’ll be the same results as this year haha Kapolei has a formula of disappointment. All student athletes and parents should understand and take it as a lesson. Transferring to Kapolei will only lead to disappointment cause at the end of the day Kapolei will be taking a sit with Kaiser, Nanakuli and Radford watching the playoffs. If I were JV players from Kapolei I’d transfer out and go back to their district schools cause Kapolei is rubbah knife!!! All hype!!!
@Education: Your mocking of Kahuku athlete’s intelligence is reflection of your constant negative mentality. It takes a wise man to encourage high school kids to do better, not to negatively cute them down. BTW, what happened to your best high school football team Iolani? Was it 43 to 19 by a team that just started playing football in the ILH?
