GAME NIGHT 10/6: Waipahu/McKinley

The Waipahu Marauders will enter the OIA Division II playoffs as the top seed. A win over McKinley would close out a perfect regular season.

9:51: That’s your ballgame. Waipahu wins 56-0 to keep its undefeated season intact.

9:42: On McKinley’s first play on its next possession, they fumble. Waipahu takes over on the Tigers’ 29.

9:40: Oh my. The Tigers go for a 42-yard field goal and it’s way short. Fiva Tulafale catches the miss on his own 4 and returns it all the way for a touchdown. Amorozo’s PAT is good and it’s 56-0 with 9:27 to go. He ran over both Tigers and Marauders on that one. The man was determined to get six. And he did.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:33: End of the third. A 67-yard rush by Laulii Iosefa has the Tigers at the Waipahu 12 to start the fourth.

9:29: Amorozo and Benjamin connect for touchdown No. 2 of the day, this time a 35-yard strike. Amorozo’s PAT is good and the Waipahu lead is 49-0 with 1:45 left in the third quarter.

9:25: Waipahu takes over at midfield after a McKinley punt, around four minutes left and counting in the third.

9:19: Alfred Failauga gets in on the action, scoring on a 7-yard rush. Amorozo’s PAT is good and it’s Waipahu 42-0 with 8:59 left in the third.

9:14: Waipahu starts the second half from the McKinley 42, with the running clock in effect.

THIRD QUARTER

8:48: McKinley can’t quite get into the end zone and we’re at the half. Waipahu will receive to start the second half.

8:42: McKinley is putting together a drive again, and they call timeout with the ball on Waipahu’s 46 with 32 seconds left in the half.


8:39: Three-and-out for the McKinley, but the Tigers get the ball back after a running into the punter call. Ball on their own 36 with 3:10 left in the half.

8:34: TOUCHDOWN MARAUDERS. Amorozo finds Zeondre Benjamin for a 61-yard score with 5:03 left in the half. Amorozo knocks the extra point through.

8:30: The Tigers can’t get another first down and elect to punt. Waipahu takes over from its own 11 with 6:19 left in the half.

8:27: The Tigers are putting a nice drive together, rushing the ball exclusively for short gains. They’re now on the Waipahu 35 with 8:06 left in the second quarter. The Marauders call timeout to catch their breaths.

SECOND QUARTER

8:19: Marauders linebacker Centennial Kulikefu picks off Sioeli Lopes-Liutolo and stumbles to the McKinley 13. Two plays later, Manuele Palusami scores from one yard out as time expires in the first quarter. Amorozo’s PAT is good and it’s 28-0 after one quarter of action.

8:11: This is getting ugly pretty fast. Branson Jay Reyes takes a screen from Amorozo 15 yards to the end zone. Amorozo’s PAT is good, and the Waipahu lead is 21-0 with 3:38 to go in the first stanza.

8:08: Whoa, Kapanui-Reyes almost scored touchdown No. 3 on a punt return, but the last man gets him at the McKinley 35. 4:15 left in the first.

8:03: EZEKIEL-KAI KAPANUI-REYES CAME TO PLAY. His second reception of the day is a 33-yard touchdown from Amorozo, and the quarterback kicks the extra point to make the Waipahu lead 14-0 with 7:46 to go in the first quarter. Kapanui-Reyes after two possesions: Two rushes for 29 yards and a touchdown, two receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown.

8:00: Three-and-out for McKinley, three rushes for a total of 0 yards. Waipahu takes over on the McKinley 45 with 8:19 to go in the first.

7:57: TOUCHDOWN WAIPAHU. Ezekiel-Kai Kapanui-Reyes lines up at wildcat quarterback and rushes twice, his second attempt a 34-yard scamper to the end zone. Braden Amorozo‘s PAT is good. Just like that, the Marauders lead 7-0 with 10:37 to go in the first quarter.

7:54: FUMBLE, recovered by Waipahu. Marauders start things off at the McKinley 29.

7:52: The Tigers will start from their own 34. Alexandria Buchanan with the start at quarterback.

7:51: McKinley will receive to start this game.


FIRST QUARTER

7:18 p.m.: Waipahu wins the JV game 55-6. We’re looking at a delayed kickoff. One of McKinley’s players was injured which called the JV game early. The ambulance is not here yet, but let’s just hope the kid is OK. We do not have a JV roster available at the moment. Warmups will start after his situation is sorted.
