Two-time defending OIA champion Kahuku remained at No. 23 in the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 25 high school football rankings released Monday.
The Red Raiders (4-0), who have outscored their first four opponents 152-13, head to Las Vegas this week to play No. 16 Bingham (Utah) in the Polynesian Football Classic at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday.
This is the first game for Kahuku against a nationally top-25 ranked teams since a 35-7 loss to No. 1 Bishop Gorman last September.
Kahuku has lost its last four games played on the continent and five straight against mainland opponents. The last victory came in August 2001 when Inoke Funaki threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns in a 19-14 win over Skyline (Utah) at Kahuku.
In the MaxPreps computer rankings, Saint Louis is Hawaii’s top-ranked team at No. 35, followed by Punahou, which jumped 93 spots to No. 55 overall after a 56-42 win over Junipero Serra on Saturday in San Diego.
Kahuku is next among Hawaii teams at No. 104.
People forget that Kahuku had a really good passing game. They say Kahuku could never throw the ball. They say that our coaches dont know how to coach a passing offense. But people forget about Vaika and Inoke. What it all boils down to is personnel. Noke had Jame’s, Loga and Hafoka and really good O-line. Vaika also had good O-line, decent receivers and a good TE.
if Kahuku can beat bingham it should bolt them to a top 10-13 xcellent 25 ranking.. it would do alot for respect for Hawaii football! Lets go Kahuku!!
The most remarkable thing about Kahuku is 4 coaches in the last 5 years result in 5 offensive changes. Too many people always look at Kahuku offense when it’s the defense that wins championships.

For those of us that saw the Aiea game last week our Starting QB fell awkward on a scramble and left the game injured, as a proud alum I was so pissed to see that he either is not listening to his coaches or he hasnt been coached to take a slide. Even our RBs are banged up because they think they are stone walls and try to run over everyone.
Learn a lesson from Mililanis RBs they all avoid contact as much as possible, unless they are bigger then the defender then they will run um over. It was a pleasure to watch Vaivai Malapai and Milton Mckenzie a few years ago because they would run for 20yds and slide or run out of bounds instead of fighting for that extra 2 yds and risk getting hurt.
Wake up RR players and staff, its a long season,save your bodies and play smarter. This year we supposedly have a balanced offense but have seen the most and the worst injuries as compared to the previous two years running the smash mouth jumbo.
I think the same company that streamed Kahuku vs. BG last year may do the poly classic games too. They are actually a Utah based company and cover alll the Utah high school games so i wouldnt see why they dont do the poly classic that has Utah teams in both games.

He wasn’t scrambling. It was a design play where either he lets the RB take it or he pulls the ball and takes it himself. He took it himself and got tackled. He did not slide because if he did he would of looked like a fuam since 1. He got tackled from behind and 2. There was no defender in front of him. It would be nice if you were at the game so you could of seen what happened first hand before you comment.
Sole you didnt see him doing the john rambo face first slide in the dirt against waianae? If he would have at least done that he wouldnt have gotten hurt on that play. Instead pee-wee herman jumped on his back and he did the john rambo face in the dirt squash the shoulder play.
I say teach him the tom brady leg first slide and live to play another down.
No love loss for Varsity Kahuku vs. Aiea, maybe if Kahuku acted like JV coaches did against Aiea, their Vars QB would not have gotten hurt.
This is not good for Kahuku to go into playing a real Powerhouse team from Utah who has more ploys on their DL who eats raw meat to quench their thirst for QB’s. If Maiava isn’t playing at 100% NO DEFENSE is going to save your arsh. Stupid move Kahuku, I hate to say it but Anywaaays is right, should’ve could’ve but didn’t. Expect another Bishop Gorman blow out!
Leave the read option to Mililani, Kahuku if you want to pass protect Maiava, if you want to run hand off the rock to any of your 100 RB’s who’s awaiting the opportunity! You only have 1 passing QB who can scramble if needled. But the OC who came up with the option read, need to be replaced because his excuse will be,”It’s football injuries are part of the game.” Not if you call plays that won’t injure Sol-Jay, and why use him anyways against Aiea, are they a real threat? Watch Bingham Defense enforce their will on Kahuku then you know how stupid your KHS OC really is, he’s just lucky to have so much talent to make him look decent, not against Bingham and no Maiava! I hate OC’s that don’t think things out first.

Why would they take him out that early in this game when they leave him in on all the other blow outs. There not the only coaches who do that. That’s the one thing Cal Lee does that is good. They don’t care about stats they take out there starters by half time if it’s a blow out.

Sometimes players dont get hurt trying to make plays, and sometimes they do cant really control that, im sorry to hear that Sol-Jay got hurt. Maybe that will force RR to play more of that smash ball that has made them successful. I agree with whoever said that its really the defense that has been at the foundation of the RR success, they have has some great “D”eath Squads.
