Radford is one of three Hawaii high school football teams playing games on the mainland this week, and the Rams are getting a look at college life in Oregon.
Coach Lon Passos and the Rams visited George Fox University (Newberg, Ore.) on Wednesday and were planning to explore Linfield College (Mcinnville, Ore.) and Pacific University (Grove, Ore.) today. On Friday, they’ll tour Lewis & Clark College in Portland before playing a game against the Centennial (Gresham, Ore.) Eagles (0-0) on Friday night.
Then, the football and college tour continues on Saturday when the Rams attend the Portland State at Oregon State game in Corvallis, Ore.
“Today at George Fox, we had a tour guide and saw the whole campus, ate lunch at the school and then met with the football coaches later,” Passos said via a phone interview Wednesday. “The kids got to ask questions about the school and some got very interested. It just opened up their eyes to the possibilities.”
Radford was also planning to enjoy a banquet with the Centennial players tonight.
When the Rams (1-2, 1-2 Oahu Interscholastic Association Blue) return to Hawaii, they’ll be meeting the iron of their division over the next three weeks — at home against Waianae on Sept. 9 and Campbell on Sept. 15 and at Kahuku on Sept. 23.
“We’ve just got to do our best to keep healthy,” Passos said. “This trip is helping us out a lot, especially with team bonding. It’s been very good.”
