Leonard Barcoma Jr. will take over as head coach of the state champion Maui High baseball team, Sabers athletic director Michael Ban announced Wednesday.
Barcoma has coached in more than 20 seasons in the Maui Interscholastic League — at Maui High and at Kamehameha-Maui. He was Maui’s JV head coach last season.

Under head coach Chase Corniel, the Sabers captured the Division I state title last spring with a 6-1 victory over Waiakea in an all-Neighbor Islands final at Les Murakami Stadium. It was Maui’s second state crown and first since 1982.
