Kaiser will play its first varsity football game of the season Friday at Campbell, according to the hosting coach, Darren Johnson of the Sabers.
Previously, the Cougars had to cancel all three of its games (two of them went down as league forfeits) due to low roster numbers.
At that time, according to multiple sources, the Cougars had 19 players but seven were ineligible for various reasons.
Contacted by phone Wednesday, Johnson said Kaiser coach Arnold Martinez called him earlier this week to verify that Friday’s OIA Blue game is still on. Johnson said that Martinez mentioned that Kaiser will have a roster of between 19 and 22 players.
The Sabers are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Four more games are on the Cougars’ schedule after Friday — Sept. 8 at Aiea, Sept. 16 at Kahuku, Sept. 22 at home against Moanalua, and Sept. 30 at home against Waianae.
If those four games are held, the Sept. 22 contest is a big one. That would mark the first time Kaiser plays at home on its brand-new artificial turf field.
Its about time!
Stay in yo lane!
Sigh, Kaiser needs a real coach to come and apply please. Anyone?
