GAME NIGHT 8/18: Leilehua/Mililani

A fun rivalry in Central Oahu goes down as the Mililani Trojans FINALLY take the field for a real game hosting Leilehua.

Although the Trojans picked up a win last week when Kaiser forfeited, they have not lost their first game since 2008 when Castle beat them. Mililani has not lost to its rivals since 2012, a streak of five games. The Mules have not beaten the Trojans in Mililani since 2011. Mililani leads the series 20-18-1. Leilehua has not shut out Mililani since 2005. Mililani has not shut out Leilehua since 1988. Leilehua doesn’t play at home until Sept. 8. Leilehua has not had a 100-yard rusher against Mililani since Rico Newman put up 161 in 2008, a span of nine games. Mililani’s scores in the last four meetings: 52,63,51,44.

9:35: Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi in at QB for Mililani.

9:56: Blaze Torres intercepts a Nichols pass to stop a Leilehua march into Mililani territory.

9:49: A 57-yard Gabriel pass to Vegas and a 15-yarder to Chang leads to Motoyama’s second touchdown of the night, a 6-yard run. Santiago adds the extra point. Mililani 47, Leilehua 7, 7:10 left in the game.

9:46: Three incomplete passes and a Nichols run for six yards gets the ball to the Mililani 8, but the Mules turn over the ball on downs.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:42: With the running clock, the third quarter ends.

9:39: McGary catches a 5-yard pass for a frist down to the Mililani 31. On the next play, the Trojans are called for a personal foul, moving the ball to the Mililani 14.

9:35: Warren Lagaaia catches a 28-yard pass from Nichols and then James McGary picks up 19 on a screen pass. Mules are in Mililani territory.

9:33: Leilehua punts on its first possession of the second half. Mililani then drove all the way to the Mules’ 1 before Jalen Ololua fumbled and the ball rolled into and then off to the side of the end zone.

THIRD QUARTER

>> Gabriel is 14-for-21 for 169 yards and two TDs.
>> Malepeai has 103 yards rushing on 12 carries and three TDs.
>> Nichols is 8-for-13 for Leilehua for 31 yards, but he has been sacked five times. >> Tuiolemotu has five tackes for loss, including three sacks.
>> The Mililani defense has held Leilehua to 9 rushing yards and a total of 40 scrimmage yards.

9:07: Halftime.

9:06: The Trojans run two more plays before halftime. On one, Gabriel is sacked for 5 yards by Alika Rosa.


9:05: Masen Reis returns the kickoff 54 yards for Leilehua to the Mililani 39, but the Mules end up giving away the ball on downs.

9:00: On the next play, Motoyama appears to be brought down after a short gain on a sweep, but he stays up and breaks free for a 26-yard touchdown. Santiago adds the extra point. Mililani 40, Leilehua 0, 2:47 left in first half.

8:56: Mililani is deep into Mules territory again. Raysen Motoyama gains 16 yards on a run, Ryan Chang catches two passes for a total of 33 yards. The ball gets as far as the 11 before a penalty brings it back to the 26.

8:53: Leilehua punts for the fifth time.

8:47: A Tuiolemotu sack of Nichols leads to a Leilehua punt. Then, Mililani goes three and out and is about to punt it away for the first time all night from its own 14.

8:42: Mules are in Trojans territory. Quarterback Max Nichols finds Dorian Furtado with a 14-yard pass and then Kalika Anderson Seumanutafa-Bryant, a 250-pounder, goes up the middle for 12 yards.

8:34: Once again, Gabriel scrambles out of a hard rush, picks up a key block and rolls to his left while Reichel Vegas breaks free down the left sideline. Gabriel heaves and Vegas catches it for a 37-yard touchdown. Some tough running from Olomua got the Trojans into Leilehua territory. Santiago adds the extra point. Mililani 33, Leilehua 0, 10:02 left in first half.

SECOND QUARTER

8:28: The Mules get their first first down on a 15-yard facemask penalty on Mililani, but they lose that gained yardage with a personal-foul penalty. Soon after, Leilehua punts and the first quarter ends.

8:22: A short Leilehua punt and a 15-yard Mules penalty gives the ball to Mililani at the Leilehua 22. Two plays later, Gabriel goes back to throw and is chases hard by two Leilehua defenders. He escapes to his left and hits Malepeai at about the 5-yard line with a line-drive pass. Malepeai picks up the rest of the yardage to complete the 20-yard TD pass. Santiago adds the extra point. Mililani 26, Leilehua 0, 1:53 to go first quarter.

8:19: Leilehua goes three and out for the second time and will be punting the ball away.

8:15: A 16-yard Gabriel scramble leads to Malepeai’s 19-yard touchdown run off right tackle. A bad snap on the extra-point attempt leads to a failed conversion. Mililani 19, Leilehua 0, 3:36 to go in the first quarter.

8:14: Mililani’s Kaine Park recovers Santiago’s onside kick and the Trojans’ offense is in business again.

8:10: Kaysen Higa, the holder for the potential kick, gets up and rolls right and throws a pass to his left that is picked off by Leilehua’s Jerome Holliday. Two-point conversion fails. Mililani 13, Leilehua 0, 4:10 to go first quarter.

8:08: On the fourth play into the drive, Malepeai breaks through the middle and is untouched after he gets past the linebackers on his way to a 27-yard touchdown. Awaiting the extra point.

8:05: Trojans start at their own 45 for their second possession.

8:04: A penalty on Mililani on the punt leads to a rekick.

8:02: Mykah Tuiolemotu makes a tackle for loss and then a sack for Mililani and Leilehua punts the ball away.

7:57: Gabriel fakes a fourth-down handoff to Malepeai, keeps it and goes in from 3 yards out for a touchdown. Damien Santiago kicks the extra point. Mililani 7, Leilehua 0, 7:19 to go first quarter.

7:53: Gabriel’s screen pass to Malepeai goes for 18 yards. Malepeai then runs twice for nine yards. The Trojans have a third down and 1 at the Mules’ 3.


7:52: Mililani is facing a fourth and 9.

7:49: Trojans are driving. Short Dillon Gabriel passes and runs by Jalen Olomua and Kilifi Malepeai have put the ball into Mules territory.
