Julius Buelow has returned to the neighborhood.
The 6-foot-7, 292-pound sophomore has transferred from Damien to Kapolei, his district school. He enrolled at Kapolei during the winter and will play football this fall for the Hurricanes. Buelow has scholarship offers from Hawaii, BYU and Oregon State.
Kapolei, which plays in OIA Division I (and is eligible for Open Division), makes it a shorter commute for Buelow. Damien plays football in Division II of the ILH.
“He’s off the charts, a 3.7 GPA, and a great kid,” Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez texted. “Brian Derby said he has enormous potential as an offensive tackle.”
Buelow will join a group of returnees that includes linebackers Kukea Emmsley (Navy, Oregon State) and Rocky Savea (Oregon State, Texas Tech). Emmsley (6-5, 230) collected both offers within the past week and was also at Damien before transferring after his sophomore season (2015).
Savea, now 6-2 and 225 pounds, was hindered by multiple injuries last season, but is making a healthy recovery.
“Rocky is doing great,” Hernandez said.
Second-team all-state quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is expected to move with his family to Alabama in the offseason. The sophomore has offers from Alabama, Hawaii, Oregon and Utah. His older brother, first-team all-state QB Tua, is already enrolled with the Crimson Tide this spring.
kapolei an cambell would dominate d1 if there kids stayed home, ilh has many footballers from these side of the island
Gotta wonder if Darren Hernandez reached out to those players and talked them into transferring. Gotta wonder if Damien recruited those players. Darren Johnson is head football coach at Campbell. I say he also recruits players. Recruiting is the name of the game nowadays. You look at Mililani’s 2014 state championship football team. I read several articles about their “transfers”, but no names. But go look at their bios on their team’s website. Former Mililani QB McKenzie Milton is listed as being from Kapolei. Their star receiver Kainoa Wilson lists Nanakuli as his hometown. Star OL Jordan Agasiva. The Utah website says he played his 9th and 10th grade year at Farrington.
Is Miano at Kapolei too?
It’s obvious from these other posts that the posters are graduates of Oahu public schools where literacy isn’t important.
Campbell will have a beast Defense with new D-coach Mika Li’ili’i. I cant wait to watch. Nice pick-up D-Johnson…..
