Boys 106
First round
Kainoa Torigoe (‘Iolani) vs. Joe-Kila Faafiu (Leilehua), Fall 4:14
Prestiege Kahookele-Himalaya (Waianae) vs. Alan Sanchez (Lahainaluna), Fall 1:36

Triston Baron (Roosevelt) vs. Marcus Charles (Island Pacific), 14-5
Makana Young (Saint Louis) vs. Kobby Faeldonea (Kealakehe), Fall 1:09

Hunter Nagatani (Waipahu) vs. Dylan Cuesta (Mililani), Fall :24
Kamaehu Akina (KS-Hawaii) vs. Brant Porter (Kamehameha), Fall :26

Timothy Nakamoto (Waiakea) vs. Skyler Suzui (Hawaii Baptist), Fall 1:53
Leonardo Nunez (Farrington) vs. Colby Ravida (Baldwin), Fall 5:14

Notes: Torigoe is sitting pretty as the top seed, he has no state medal but neither does anyone else. This is where future stars are born, and it should be wide open.

Quarterfinals
Torigoe vs. Sanchez, 14-4
Baron vs. Faeldonea, 5-4
Nagatani vs. Porter, 7-0
Suzui vs. Ravida, Fall :23

Semifinals
(1) Kainoa Torigoe (‘Iolani) vs. Triston Baron (Roosevelt)
(3) Hunter Nagatani (Waipahu) vs. (2) Colby Ravida (Baldwin)

Boys 113
First round
Kysen Terukina (Kamehameha) vs. Joseph Anzaldua (Leilehua), Fall 3:18
Elijah Asuncion (Moanalua) vs. Carlos Beltram (Kealakehe), Fall 1:14

Mitchell Funasaki (Mililani) vs. Michael Stovall (McKinley), 1-0
Elijah Kaawa (Saint Louis) vs. Ikua Tihada (Lahainaluna), 4-2

Waylon Spain (Waiakea) vs. Logan Leialoha (Kailua), 8-6
Mason Stoll-Tolentino (Kauai) vs. Landon Obra-Nakata (Damien), Fall 4:15

Kolby Inouye (Baldwin) vs. Casen Watanabe (Punahou), 7-5
Troy Weilbacher (Waianae) vs. Andre Pagurayan (Kapolei), Fall 1:36

Notes: The danger of doing these notes based on state medals is a freshman like Terukina is discounted but the top seed is the real deal. He will not meet an opponent with a state medal until the final, his side is devoid of them. The other side contains Obra-Nakata, who reached the state final at 106 last year, but Terukina has handled him all season in the ILH. Pagurayan has been in this class for three years, taking fourth in 2015 and third last year.

Quarterfinals
Terukina vs. Asuncion, Fall 1:55
Funasaki vs. Kaawa, 4-2
Leialoha vs. Obra-Nakata, Fall 2:53
Watanabe vs. Pagurayan, DQ

Notes: Pagurayan disqualified for slamming Watanabe on his head. Watanabe may not be able to wrestle his next match.

Punahou coach Yoshi Honda: “Sad it happened that way. It was a half-nelson that came up over the hip and then he landed on his head. Casen has a concussion and he’s going to the hospital. It’s sad because he’s out and Pagurayan (due to the disqualification) doesn’t get to go on either. No one wins there. We’re hoping Casen is going to be OK.”

Semifinals
(1) Kysen Terukina (Kamehameha) vs. Elijah Kaawa (Saint Louis)
(6) Landon Obra-Nakata (Damien) vs. Casen Watanabe (Punahou)

Boys 120
First round
Corey Cabanban (Saint Louis) vs. Dylan Olson (Pahoa), Fall :49
Casey Nitta (Mililani) vs. Colby Hanley (King Kekaulike), Fall 4:40

Jayson Pagurayan (Kapolei) vs. Koby Chun (Kaiser), Fall :52
Elani Nagatani (Waipahu) vs. Johnny Tunufai (Waiakea), 7-1

Kawehi Gillcoat (Lahainaluna) vs. Isaac Stalcup (Leilehua), Fall 5:16
Carlos Lopez (Keaau) vs. Noah Brigoli (‘Iolani), Fall 1:35

Trey Conrado (Kealakehe) vs. Justin Abe (Punahou), 16-0
Noa Helm (KS-Maui) vs. Logan Garcia (Moanalua), Fall :59

Notes: Cabanban is going for his third straight state title but it won’t come easy. There are no medalists in his quad but Pagurayan is sitting right there in the semifinals. If the Hurricane is healthy, he can beat Cabanban. Pagurayan is looking for his first state crown after finishes of sixth, second and third. Gillcoat is in the other side of the bracket, finishing sixth last year, but defending state champ Garcia is sitting in the second seed.

Quarterfinals
Cabanban vs. Nitta, 2-0
Pagurayan vs. Nagatani, 14-5
Gillcoat vs. Brigoli, 16-1
Abe vs. Garcia, Fall :32

Semifinals
(1) Corey Cabanban (Saint Louis) vs. (5) Jayson Pagurayan (Kapolei)
(3) Kawehi Gillcoat (Lahainaluna) vs. (2) Logan Garcia (Moanalua)

Boys 126
First round
Kainalu Estrella (Lahainaluna) vs. Joshua Matsumoto (Mid-Pacific), 11-4
Kaai Tambagan-Kaeo (Waianae) vs. Jericho Manning (Pahoa), 20-6

Kaena De Santos (Leilehua) vs. Elijah Apao (Hilo), Fall 5:12
Isaac Hokama (Roosevelt) vs. Nicholas Stefanelli (Punahou), 13-1

Elison Galanto (Kealakehe) vs. Grant Kawasaki (Aiea), Fall 3:23
Corey Agena (Waimea) vs. Ansen Ursua (Saint Louis), Fall 2:53

Souta Nardi (Baldwin) vs. Ka’ua Nishigaya (‘Iolani), 10-8
Janoah Benauro (Mililani) vs. Triston Santos (Campbell), Fall 1:01

Notes: Estrella reached the state final last year after taking third the year before, getting the top seed was big for him because his only challenge seems to be Stefanelli, who was fourth at 120 last year, on his side of the bracket. Nardi is a medalist on the other side in what might be the toughest quad in the tournament. He finished sixth at 126 last year but draws Nishigaya, who was fourth at 106 last year, in the first round. The second round doesn’t get any easier, with 2015 state champion and two-time finalist Santos looming as the second seed.

Quarterfinals
Estrella vs. Tambagan-Kaeo, Fall 2:41
De Santos vs. Stefanelli, 4-3
Kawasaki vs. Ursua, Fall 2:38
Nishigaya vs. Santos, 11-1

Semifinals
(1) Kainalu Estrella (Lahainaluna) vs. (4) Nicholas Stefanelli (Punahou)
(6) Ansen Ursua, Saint Louis vs. (2) Triston Santos (Campbell)

Boys 132
First round
Zayren Terukina (Campbell) vs. Chavison Kalamau (Waianae), Fall 1:53
Koali Nishigaya (Saint Louis) vs. Zeff Dudoit (Lahainaluna), Def.

Colby Watase (‘Iolani) vs. Naikoa Simao (Waimea), Fall
Fatiaki Keonekealoha (Farrington) vs. Kaau Estrella (KS-Hawaii), 14-9

Gabriel Esperanza (Baldwin) vs. Vincent Terrell (Punahou), 2-1
Keli’i Pelekane (Kealakehe) vs. Christian Tavares (Radford), 20-4

Kailee Hamada (Hilo) vs. Blake Tadaki (Castle), Fall 1:16
Elijah Diamond (Mililani) vs. Matthew Perez (Kamehameha), 11-5

Notes: Terukina is the top seed and finished third at 126 last year. He is the only medalist in his quad but Watase looms as he goes for his fourth state medal. He finished fifth last year after placing fourth the previous two years at 106 pounds. Tavares is a threat on the other side, finishing fifth at 120 last year, nobody else on his side of the bracket has a state medal including ILH champion Perez. Diamond has a tough road if he wants to give his family its sixth straight year with a state placer.

Quarterfinals
Terukina vs. Dudoit, Fall 1:45
Watase vs. Estrella, 4-2
Terrell vs. Tavares, 19-6
Tadaki vs. Perez, 12-5

Preston Gonsalves (Saint Louis) vs. Jacson Miles (Kealakehe), 7-4

Demiytri Dameg (Lanai) vs. Antonio Ruiz (Moanalua), 7-2
Ezekiel Anahu (KS-Hawaii) vs. Kainoa Richardson (Kamehameha), 6-1

Kyle Ortiz (Hilo) vs. Akila Arecchi (Damien), 5-0
Ryan Wahl (Radford) vs. Ke’ale Kelinoi (Waianae) Fall 1:53

Notes: Fong is going for his third state medal and first title after finishing fourth last year and reaching the state final against Shandon Ilaban Totten in 2015. Manley looms for Fong in the second round, he finished fourth at 126 last year behind only Zayren Terukina, Keliinoi and Cameron Kato. Ruiz is on the other side of the bracket and is as tough as they come, going for his fourth state medal. He was third the last two years and fourth as a freshman. Keliinoi vs. Ruiz is a definite possibility in the semifinals, the Searider reached the state final at 126 last year and is going for his third medal after taking sixth at 120 the year before.

Quarterfinals
Fong vs. Yamaguchi, 3-0
Pangelinan vs. Gonsalves, 10-0
Ruiz vs. Richardson, 5-4
Arecchi vs. Kelinoi, 15-3

Zhachary Carreiro (Waianae) vs. Julius Severs (Radford), Fall 1:07
Mason Morimoto (Waiakea) vs. Kason Nitahara (Kamehameha), Fall 1:32

Izik Nakamasu (Hilo) vs. Shane Yasunaga (Punahou), 4-2
Chase Wusstig (Moanalua) vs. Jake Ballesteros (Lanai), 11-3

Notes: Mimura is the boss here, finishing third at 138 last year and sixth at 132 the year before. Tampos finished sixth at 138 last year and is the only other medalist in the rest of the bracket. The Bottom is wide open with Ballesteros being the second seed but there is no sure thing.

Quarterfinals
Mimura vs. Hobby, 17-6
Tampos vs. Wengler, 5-4
Carreiro vs. Nitahara, 17-2
Nakamasu vs. Wusstig, 13-1

Semifinals

Christian Cassen (Moanalua) vs. Dominic Dela Cruz (Konawanea), 10-5
Kainalu Tumpap (Saint Louis) vs. Madison Leanio (Kauai), Fall 1:03

Notes: Makoa is trying to become the fifth Cooper to earn a state medal, and his route is clear as there are no other state medalists on his side of the bracket. Angelo finished fifth at 132 last year in a stacked bracket that included Blaysen Terukina, Shandon Ilaban-Totten, Antonio Ruiz and Joseph Fong. The only other wreslter with state medalist experience on Angelo’s side of the bracket is Madison Leanio of Kauai, who finished fifth last year at 152.

Quarterfinals
Cooper vs. Bell, Fall :58
Tapia vs. Lobitania, Fall 4:41
Angelo vs. Mair, 16-14
Cassen vs. Leanio, 10-5

Boys 160
First round

Mason Canonico (Punahou) vs. Reeno Pascual (Lahainaluna), Fall 1:30

Trever Kahunahuna (Kamehameha) vs. Jensen Braeden (Kapolei), 15-11

Haili Kapela (Konawaena) vs. Gianni Oyadomari (Kapolei), 6-4
Blaze Torres (Mililani) vs. Kaysen Takenaka (‘Iolani), 13-3

Notes: Burgos has been dominant all year after finishing fourth at states last year and looking to become Aiea’s first state champ since Frank Pascua in 1990. He is the only guy on his side of the bracket with a state medal. The only other wrestler in the bracket with a state medal is second seed Takenaka, who was the surprise of the 2015 tournament with a run to the state final against Chance Ikei but couldn’t turn that momentum into a pacement last year.

Quarterfinals
Burgos vs. Canonico, 13-4
Kahunahuna vs. Figueroa, 5-4
Joy vs. Esperas, 8-4
Oyadomari vs. Takenaka, 8-1

Semifinals

Jashen Mathieu (KS-Hawaii) vs. Kekuewa Wong (University), Fall 3:13
Salvador Gonzalez (Roosevelt) vs. Kasey Kikuyama (Pearl City), 4-0

Notes: Pascua is one of the state’s best, finishing second to Liam Corbett at 152 last year and winning his first title at 145 the year before. He is also looking to compete in his fourth state final, losing to Braydon Akeo in 2014. Pascua would be Iolani’s first 170-pound champ since Robert Yamashita in 2002 and is the only boy on his side of the bracket with a medal to his credit, much less three. The only other guy in the bracket with a state medal is second seeded Kikuyama, who was fifth at 160 last year.

Quarterfinals
Pascua vs. Ochoa, 5-2
Wong-Lau vs. Boromeo, Fall 3:28
Respicio vs. Aipoalani, 9-6
Wong vs. Kikuyama, Fall 3:44

Hau’oli Sineci (Hanalani) vs. Sam Scott (Saint Louis), 11-3
Reginald Faamatau (Farrington) vs. Gabriel LeLesch (Kailua), 10-1

Notes: Mussell was fourth at 160 last year and dominated the ILH championships to earn the top seed and be in position to be Hawaii Baptist’s first state title. He is the only medalist in the entire bracket but Barefoot is trying to follow in the legacy of 1980 third place finisher Mark Barefoot.

Quarterfinals
Mussell vs. Dellatan, 10-8
Barefoot vs. Bates, Fall 1:54
Wright vs. Dano, 3-2
Scott vs. LeLesch, Fall 3:46

Ethan Ramos (KS-Hawaii) vs. Legend Matautia (Punahou), 10-5
Zion Lista (Farrington) vs. Jayden Ferreira (Baldwin), Fall 4:21

Notes: Mirza, the top seed, finished fourth in this class last year and has been competing at 220 for much of this year. He is the only boy on his side of the bracket with a state medal. Fautanu made it to the 182-pound state final last year but is unseeded and in the same quad as the OIA champ. Ferreira has had an outstanding season but will be looking for his first state medal in a quad that is devoid of them.

Quarterfinals

Matautia vs. Ferreira, 9-3

Jmar Castillo-Sol (Keaau) vs. Samiula Oto (Baldwin), Fall 2:46

Notes: Tynanes is the defending state champion after finishing third in 2015 and could become the first Tynanes to repeat since Lowen in 2008. He is the only guy in his quad with a state medal. Kaahanui finished fifth in the state last year and is the only medalist in his quad but could meet ILH champ Ai in the second round. The bottom of the bracket is completely void of state medalists and is set up for MIL vs. BIIF champs in the final.

Quarterfinals
Tynanes vs. Caminos-Freitas, 2-0
Kaahanui vs. Gonzales, Fall 5:53
Kubota vs. Busch-Matuu, 5-4

Michael Gopaul (Kealakehe) vs. John Carlos Buted (Damien), Fall :19

Notes: Yamashiro tops the bracket as the defending state champion, he will be going for a repeat in the top division for the first time since Maui’s Saia Lotulelei in 2001. He is the only state medalist on his side of the bracket. Alo was third in the state last year, the only one on his side of the bracket with a state medal, and he has to open with the OIA champion. Harsh.

Quarterfinals
Yamashiro vs. Samuelu, Fall 1:17
Rodrigues vs. Hooper, Fall 5:49
Alapai vs. Bollig, Fall 3:32
Buted vs. Leite, 4-2
