The Chevron/HHSAA State Wrestling Championships are here. We start the morning session on the girls side. Here’s a look at all of the brackets.

In case you missed it, Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound girls wrestling rankings were updated on Thursday. There will be a lot of attention on the 112-pound division.

Notes: Higa is the defending state champion in the weight class and a two time medalist after finishing sixth the year before. She is the only medalist on her side of the bracket but there are plenty on the other side. Taylor finished fourth in the bracket last year and Ikei made the state final at 102. Encinas is a two-time state finalist and three-time state medalist, being pinned by Higa in last year’s penultimate battle after beating Mikayla Abe for the 2015 state crown. She was fifth as a freshman at 101 pounds.

Her biggest threat before the semifinals could come from He, who finished sixth in this weight class last year but has a tough first round match against Albino-Kaupu, who was sixth at 112 pounds last year. Mahoe was third in states last year and fourth the year before and is the most experienced girl on her side of the bracket as the only one with a state medal.

Notes: Abe, the top seed, will be looking for some serious redemption this year after reaching the state final the last two years but losing both times. She fell to Iverly Navarro last year and Alexis Encinas the year before but both Lunas have moved on to other weight classes. She is the only girl on her side of the bracket with a state medal, so another state final appearance looms. Pasion was third at 127 pounds last year and could run into Kannys, who was fifth at 117 pounds last year, in the second round. Pineda-Abaya drew a tough seed but could come out of her bracket, she has finished fourth at 117 the last two years and the No. 2 seed as the MIL champ, Taguiam, has never won a medal on this stage.

CORRECTION: After an initial posting mistake, Taguiam indeed won.

Notes: This is Alo’s world. She finished third last year for Iolani despite an injury and won the state title at 122 as a freshman, rolling through the bracket. Alo went through this season determined to find the most challenging bracket but seems to have run into the same problem that plagued her sister, a ghost town. She won’t run into a girl with a state medal until the second round if Bicoy Juario, who was sixth last year but lost in the first round to avoid Teshya Alo, beats Chan. She is the only state medalist on Alo’s side of the bracket. The other side features Kaiser’s Roselani Ikei, who was fifth last year and beat Chow in the final match. Pelegrino-Hayase is the second seed after taking fifth last year.

There is some serious experience on the other side, though, with Fuamatu (fifth two years in a row) and four-time BIIF champ Araki, who has finished third two years in a row in brackets topped by Angela Peralta and Teshya Alo.

Ayers was sixth at state last year after taking fourth the year before. Strange things happen in this weight class, though, there hasnt been a repeat winner since Darcie Manning O’Brien in 2011-12.

Umu is the top seed after taking fourth last year and following it up with a BIIF crown. She gets the top seed because Keopuhiwa failed to win the OIA this year. Keopuhiwa is going for her fourth state medal, finishing third last year. She dropped down to 184 and finished fourth as a sophomore after taking fifth at 220 as a freshman. There are no state medalists on the other side of the bracket, clearing the way for Fotu to reach the final and possibly become Farrington’s first state champ since Taylor Ibera in 2009.
