A trio of Punahou swimmers doubled up at the ILH trials at Punahou on Friday night, paving the way for another league title.
Maddie Balish qualified first in the 200 freestyle to beat fellow state champions Cagla Brennan of Iolani and Pac-Five’s Le Grand Pound then came in first in the 100 breaststroke. Balish holds the ILH championship record in that event.
Fellow Buffanblu state champion Lia Foster was first in the 200 IM and 100 back stroke. She holds the ILH championship record in the latter event.
Punahou sophomore Sydnee Whitty doesn’t hold any ILH records, but she doubled yesterday with wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Other top qualifiers in individual events included Hiilani Hopkins of Kamehameha in the 100 butterfly and fellow Warrior Jamy Lum in the 500 freestyle.
Pac-Five’s Albert Zhi and MJ Mao of Maryknoll were the only boys to double up in the trials. Other winners included Dawson Sloan of Mid-Pacific, Kamehameha’s Kanoa Sawai, Denison Piosalan of Pac-Five and Mid-Pacific’s Michael Petrides.
