LeGrand Pound of Sacred Hearts is getting her speed back.
Pound, a junior with four state swimming golds to her credit, beat some fellow state champions in the ILH’s meet at ‘Iolani on Friday.
Pound started with a win over ‘Iolani’s Cagla Brennan and Punahou’s Maddie Balish in the 200 freestyle, swimming the distance in 1:57.25. Brennan, a senior, had a 1:58.74 and Balish went 2:02.03. Brennan is the reigning state champ in the 500 free and Balish has collected 12 state gold medals in her career and won the 100 fly in 59.94 on Friday.
Pound is still rounding into form after an injury — her time in the event at states last year was 1:50.72.
She then moved on to the 100 free, where she took down Punahou senior Lia Foster with a time of 54.23 to Foster’s 54.66. Foster has eight state golds to her credit. Pound’s time in the event at states last year was 51.41.
Brennan won the 500 freestyle in 5:12.24 on Friday while Foster took the 200 IM in 2:10.35 and helped Punahou take second place behind Pac-Five in the 200 free relay.
On the boys side, Pac-Five sophomore Denison Piosalan picked up three wins, winning the 500 free in 4:40.90 and the 200 free in 1:46.27. He also swam on Pac-Five’s winning relay in the 200 medley, teaming with M.J. Mao, Edmund Shiu and Kaelan Rezentes.
