With their best demonstration of power and balance, the Kapolei Hurricanes upset the Punahou Buffanblu 33-21 in the first round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships Open Division on Saturday at Aloha Stadium. Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez chatted after the game.
Why are they always calling it a upset, just bcoz a public school beat a private.smh
Hernandez, finally accomplished a playoff win in his 30 plus year coaching career. The hype will end soon
It’s called an upset because private schools have the advantage of hand picking the best players from the state. It’s an accomplishment in itself to give them a taste of their own medicine..give props to the public schools
Just wondering Why Punahou only rush 3 guys all night?
A classy coach that has instilled integrity and humility in the young men of Kapolei. With the power of the almighty on their side anything is possible.
Great job coach… The mountain is coming… Good luck… RRFL…

Enjoy your ranking now because next year you will lose 80% of your starters and be watching the state tournament from your couches where the rest of you low-lifes reside. Good luck getting out of the OIA next year with Waianae and Kapolei on the rise.
Kapolei 60
Kahuku 7
Obviously your not a product of Coach Hernandez if this is the stuff you put out on other articles. And the power of the Almighty is on anyone’s side who seeks it with Faith. . .
Coach is such a classy guy unlike @topdoggs I’m sure the almighty is proud of your comments on the other article
Kahuku – 40
Kapolei – 7
@Alpha: Amen.
No matter what the result is there are two coaches in the state that have accomplished absolutely no OIA, Prep Bowl or State championships but still remain Head Coaches.
Darren Hernandez & Randall Okimoto
