The USA Today Super 25 Top Star of the week honor was given to Kahuku freshman quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava on Thursday.
The speedy playmaker scored two touchdowns in Kahuku’s 44-8 win over Farrington for the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I football championship on Friday at Aloha Stadium. He was 6-for-10 with 128 passing yards and gained 79 rushing yards on just six carries.
Maiava, who has a scholarship offer from Michigan, is the third Kahuku Red Raider to be honored by USA Today for the national award. Cornerback Stokes Nihipali-Botelho was the honoree in Week 1, and cornerback Kekaula Kaniho was honored last week.
recognition follows winning which follows hard work. all the kids in hawaii work hard, no doupt, but kahuku is doing most of the winning which equals more recognition via all star ballots, national rankings etc..think about it.
now why are all these changes happening with the 3 divisions, 2 ilh in the open, yes its an opportunity for more teams to win and get recognition…may the best and hardest working teams win.
now why cant we have 3 divisions in all the other major sports…oh, yeah the ilh wins um all and get all the recognition so there is no need for change there.
This is great.
Great for the player, great for the team, and great for Hawaii players in general.
Go Big Red.
