His last name is Tagovailoa-Amosa.
You may have heard the first part quite a bit. His cousins named Tagovailoa, both quarterbacks, received football scholarship offers from Alabama and one of them has committed. Chances are you’ve heard the last part a bunch, too. His uncle, Amosa Amosa, is the Campbell head coach and his sons, Amosa Amosa Jr., Arona Amosa and Alapana Amosa, and his nephew, Adam Amosa, were all part of the Sabers’ offensive line in recent years.
So, this person who is a hybrid of “Tagovailoa” and “Amosa” has a first name of Myron and he is a highly-recruited defensive end playing for Kapolei. Actually, according to Hurricanes head coach Darren Hernandez, he can play anywhere on the defensive line.
Unlike cousin Tua Tagovailoa, the Saint Louis star quarterback who committed to Alabama in May, Tagovailoa-Amosa thinks he’ll make his decision at midseason. He doesn’t want to wait until the season is over.
Eight Division I FBS colleges have given a scholarship offer to Tagovailoa-Amosa: Air Force, Army, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Navy, Oregon State, Utah State and Vanderbilt.
“I’ve been looking at all the schools,” he said. “They’re all great. It’s pretty even so far. I don’t want to wait too long before making a choice because I don’t want to be stalling the (college) coaches and holding them back. It gives coaches (at colleges he doesn’t choose) opportunities to go out and do their recruiting. I learned that from Tua.”
Taulia Tagovailoa, another of his cousins and Tua’s younger brother, is a sophomore starting quarterback for the Hurricanes. He has two more years to go before he makes a decision, but the offer that came in from Alabama on Saturday is a tantalizing one.
Tagovailoa-Amosa, who is a 6-foot-5, 270-pound senior, plans to go on official visits and, if he had to choose now, he would take those visits to Vanderbilt, Army and Navy.
Two other Kapolei players have received D-I FBS scholarship offers — senior receiver and safety Ezra Savea and his brother, junior linebacker Rocky Savea.
Amosa Amosa is an uncle. So too was Lene Amosa an uncle, a multi-year starter on the OL for UH when Bob Wagner was head coach.
Sounds like the boy knows what he wants post football, Army and Navy are awesome choices….
