Baldwin’s Anthony Kahoohanohano-Davis is the Gatorade Hawaii Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Gatorade Company announced Friday.
The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior won three individual titles, set two state records and anchored a victorious relay at the state championship meet in May. Kahoohanohano-Davis soared a record 24 feet, 10 inches to win the long jump, broke the previous triple-jump mark with an effort of 49-10.75 and captured the high jump with a clearance of 6-8. He also helped the 4×100 relay team capture gold and finished third in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Kahoohanohano-Davis earned a B average in the classroom. He has volunteered locally as a member of the Baldwin High Hawaiian Club, which performs at numerous community events.
Kahoohanohano-Davis was also a defensive back and kick returner for Baldwin’s Maui Interscholastic League championship football team, which qualified for the state tournament in the fall.
“His hard work and dedication have placed him exactly where he should be, as one of Maui’s most talented track and field athletes in decades,” Baldwin coach Ardis Anguay said. “He’s just an outstanding student-athlete and his humbleness makes him an even better person.”
Where is he going to college? UH not having a men’s track team will hinder us. He is a very good athlete and student I hope he stays home and helps us build our football program!
