University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Eran Ganot had 10 gems of advice for the Enterprise Hawaii Hall of Honor’s class of 2016 tonight during a presentation at Dole Cannery Ballrooms.
Below is a quick capsule of his 10-minute speech, which began with one of his basic tenets: “It’s all about people.”
1. Crush the givens
2. Enjoy the process
3. Attitude of gratitude
4. Great balance
5. There are no guarantees in life
6. Perspective rule
7. Team, team, team. Get over yourself.
8. Go where you’re happy
9. The Hawaii rule. Never forget where you come from. The aloha spirit is real.
10. Why are we here? You work your tail off to influence people in a positive way.
Great rules to live by. Hopefully the kids will embrace his teachings.
What is the cut-off date, or is there one for recruiting additional players?
THE REAL Cut-Off Date is The Current (Upcoming) Semester…
Getting Into and Keeping Up with Potentially Missed Classes IS The Hardest Physical/Mental Task, especially for “New” Recruits …[Extreme Example: Even Isaac Fotu ‘COULD Have’ attended / made up missed classes until NCAA Waiver submitted and approved]; that said, NOT a Smart Play to ADD Additional Stressors to an Already Hard Start-Up, esp. for New Arrivals…So Much better IF That “Last Scholarship” Goes (Timely) to A Player Early Enough to Attend “Bridge Summer Session”, Acclimate and WORK HARD and ease/ Transition into ‘The System’…
