Charles Ariola, Teshya Alo’s wrestling coach, released a statement today thanking everyone for their support and sharing a little bit of sponsorship news. Alo, 18, lost in the semifinals of the U.S. Olympic Trials over the weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. The four-time state champion was the second-youngest athlete in the tournament. Here is Ariola’s complete statement:

Aloha All,
On behalf of Teshya Alo and myself, we would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all of our supporters. We received many encouraging words via text/Facebook messages and so on during the Olympic Trials that it meant the world to us.
As Teshya’s coach I tried to prepare her to be at the pinnacle of her performance during the Olympic Trials, Mentally and Physically. In doing so we hid the fact that she had an ongoing medical condition that she was being treated for. I felt if handled correctly we could surpass this obstacle and still achieve our goals. All went well in the 1st round match but unbeknownst to us an old re-occurring injury resurfaced during her 2nd match in the Quarterfinals; and with that she lost all mobility.
She managed to still win the match but with such short times between rounds we could not treat the injury
sufficient enough. She fought hard against Kelsey Campbell the 2012 Olympian and eventual Trials Champion but she just fell short. Upon arriving back home we have had her checked out and the doctors say with treatment and rehab she will make a total 100 percent recovery.
Despite not winning the trials, she impressed Nike enough that they have offered her a long substantial contract. She will be the youngest female wrestler that NIKE has signed as a Sponsored Athlete. They feel that with her being so young, she will be one of the top faces of United States Female Wrestling for not only the present but in the far future to come.
Last but not least we would like to also thank all of our current sponsors that have helped and continue to help us along on our National/International level journey of United States Women’s Wrestling.
Sincerely,
Coach Charles Ariola
