Kaeo Kruse likes California, all right.
The Kamehameha senior posted a 3,000-meter time of 9 minutes, 11 seconds to place eighth at the Arcadia Invitational over the weekend. Kruse was just 5 seconds behind the winner.
According to Star-Advertiser preps editor Jerry Campany, Kruse’s time is faster than Steve Ferber’s “long-standing, dominant” 9:20 two-mile from the 1970s.
Kruse is a two-time state cross country and two-time 3,000-meter champion in Hawaii. He won last year’s 3,000 race at the state championships in 9:04.83 and was second in the 1,500 at War Memorial Stadium on Maui.
In 2014, Kruse ran an 8:43.12 at Kamehameha’s Kunuiakea Stadium to break the previous mark held by Island School’s Pierce Murphy (8:52.44).

Aloha Paul, point of clarification: Kaeo ran the 3200m race at Arcadia last weekend, not the 3000m race. Your article misleads people into thinking that he has run faster in Hawaii (9:04 in 2015 and 8:43 in 2014) at the same distance. But in fact the Hawaii races were 3000m and Arcadia race was 200m longer making it 3200m. The time is very impressive but Hawaii hasnt run the 3200m since the late 90ʻs.
