Kamehameha senior wrestler Teshya Alo has made weight and drawn her first opponent for the U.S. Olympic Trials at Iowa City, Iowa.
Alo, who earned her fourth straight state title earlier this year, is the second seed and drew Megan Black as her first opponent. Black is a sophomore at McKendree University and will be wrestling up a weight class. The three-time Fargo All-American is from Iowa so she should have a sizable following.
According to an article in thepredicament.com, Black trained for two years with Alli Ragan, the prohibitive favorite in the weight class and top seed.
If Alo can get past Black, she would have to face the winner between Jenna Burkert-Nowry and Sally Roberts, who both wrestle for Army.
The winner of the tournament will represent the United States in qualifying tournaments for the OLympic Games and will be the only American eligible for the big stage at the weight class if it becomes eligible.
The Olympic Trials will be streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra and broadcast on NBCSN.
Alo is expected to his the mat at 4 a.m. in Hawaii on Saturday.
