Tuesday’s feature on Mid-Pacific “Whiz Kid” Chase Wago had just about everything, including his penchant for solving mathematical problems. But it didn’t include some intriguing comments by Saint Louis baseball coach George Gusman, who knows a gem when he sees one.

“I’ve seen Chase Wago for four years now. He’s been a thorn in our side. I’ve seen him grow from a boy to a young man. He’s talented, smart and he carries himself very well on and off the field.

“His coaching staff should be proud of him, as well as Mid-Pacific and his family. I’m also going to be glad when he leaves. I’ve seen enough of Chase Wago and (current UH player) Marcus Doi. I’ve come to respect them as opponents and how they compete, and carry themselves.

“I know he’s going to do well wherever he goes. I have nothing but admiration for Chase Wago.”
