This is Mataafa’s world, the rest of the field is just living in it. The four time MIL champ is going for her fourth state crown and has never been in the second period in her career. She hasn’t been every active this year, but like Teshya and Teniya Alo, she doesn’t need to be. Keopuhiwa is a two time state placer and stepped into Mataafa’s place as the queen of the weight class in December, taking MIT and Paani but slipping to fifth at Officials. She won her first OIA title last week. Borden and Young can expect a battle in the quarters if they can get out of the first round and would be considered Keopuhiwa’s equal. Borden is a state placer and Young took her second ILH title last week.
