Medeiros is the easy top seed here as a defending state champ, she finished second to Kala at Officials but turned it on after that, winning Paani and Nanakuli before picking up her third ILH crown, but she draws Wells in the first round, and Wells placed last year after being the only girl to drop a top seed in the first round last year. That match should tell a lot. Kala is in the middle of the next quad with Fuamatu, the two-time MIL champ swept MIT and Officials but fell short against Manley last week. Fuamatu has never placed, but she did finish second to Kala at MIT and had another second at Paani before winning at Nanakuli. That sets up for another great second round matchup in a bracket full of them. Manley is the second seed, she is going for her fourth state placing without ever finishing higher than fifth. That is pretty rare, but she is a different wrestler now. She took third at Officials behind Kala and Medeiros but wowed people at Paani to pick up that tournament’s most outstanding wrestler award. Her quarter of the bracket looks manageable, but the one above it will be another to watch. The semifinals are set up as Ayers vs. Morris. Ayers was fourth at state last year and Morris is a fan favorite who has reached the state final in each of the last two years but fell short both times. She has struggled a bit this year, taking fourth at Officials and second at Nanakuli.
