I’ll be updating at the end of quarters for this OIA Division II girls basketball final pitting McKinley (6-6) and Kaimuki (8-3).

FIRST QUARTER
The Bulldogs were aggressive and active offensively. Though they shot just 2-for-12, they crashed the offensive boards and were a couple of 3-point tries away from stretching this lead. Tigers hanging in there. Kaimuki leads 7-4 after one quarter.

SECOND QUARTER
The Bulldogs are being patient against McKinley’s man defense and have extended the lead despite missing four free throws in a row. Victoria Kintz, their leading scorer, sat for a few minutes late in the first quarter and into the second quarter after picking up a second foul. She returned and scored on a drive, and an elbow jumper, and after center Kato Leha scored inside, Kaimuki led 15-7.

McKinley’s Joselle Ferrer swished a 45-footer from the right sideline at the buzzer to cut the lead to 15-10.

THIRD QUARTER
Kintz asserting her game, scores nine points including a tough drive for a bucket before the buzzer. Bulldogs lead 30-18 after three.

FOURTH QUARTER
The Bulldogs utilize their spread offense and chew time off the clock with Kintz and Espinda taking turns. Kintz finishes with 17 points as Kaimuki captures the OIA Division II championship.

Both teams have already qualified for the state tournament.
