Meet records fell at a frantic pace in the OIA East swimming and diving championships at Kalani on Saturday.
Nine marks fell. No records fell at the West championships a day earlier.
Here is the complete haul:
>> 100 fly: Kalani senior Shawn Fujii beat Jonathan Oba of Roosevelt and both swimmers beat the record of 52.30 seconds. Fujii swam the distance in 51.26 seconds and Oba covered it in 51.33.
>> Kaiser senior Lara Yasumi took down the record in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.62. The record was 5:10.43.
>> Taylor Brooks of Roosevelt broke the record in the 100 back with a time of 59.38, the first girl to break a minute in the event. The previous mark was 1:01.31.
>> Roosevelt junior Jun Yueb Yoon kept the haul going for the Rough Riders, shattering the mark in the 100 back with a time of 53.34. The record was 54.23.
>> State champion Christian Nishimura lowered the record in the 11 breast, finishing it in 58.84 seconds. Roosevelt sophomore Joseph Ahia helped him along by also breaking the record with a 59.55 clocking. The record stood at 59.61.
>> Yasumi added to a relay record for the Cougars, teaming with Erin Patterson, Hanna Heiss and Mari Yasumi to cover the 200 medley relay in 1:51.58 to break the record of 1:53.57.
>> Oba, Ahia and Yoon then combined forces with Alex Croll to lower the record in the 200 medley relay from 1:43.02 to 1:39.94. Kalani also broke the record with a time of 1:41.10.
>> Kalani girls Shirley Li, Lina Namatame, Kate Fujii and Paris James broke the record in the 400 free relay, swimming it in 3:44.59. The record was 3:48.70.
>> Yoon and Oba wrapped up the night with their third record each, teaming with Hayato Shigihara and Reimon Wada to break the record in the boys 400 free relay with a time of 3:19.19. The mark stood at 3:23.59.
Kaiser’s girls won the team title in the East with the Roosevelt boys joining them. Mililani boys and girls swept the West.
