El Segundo (Calif.) is the home team, dressed in all-white uniforms with black numbers and dark yellow trim. McKinley is in charcoal gray uniforms with dark yellow numbers.
FIRST QUARTER
The Eagles are facing a 2-3 zone by McKinley, well coached. Patient. Defensively, they’re running a soft three-quarter press. The have handled it without a turnover. The Eagles, though, are getting inside and have a 9-4 lead with 3:20 left. Time out, Tigers.
Eagles push the ball quickly for a layup by Josh Hessing.
McKinley’s burly 6-foot-5 center, Mark Burke, scored inside a couple of times early, but now the Eagles are pushing him off the block and he is being double- and triple teamed. El Segundo has a definite overall height advantage.
McKinley gets a putback in the final seconds of the quarter. Sorry, whoever #4 is for the Tigers is not listed by that number in the program roster.
HALFTIME
El Segundo leads at the half, 24-14. In many ways, the Eagles and Tigers are playing evenly. THe Tigers are scraping by best they can with an undersized lineup (with the exception of Burke). What makes things significantly harder for them is not having a 3-point shooter on the floor. They miss Kyle Moraga (religious DNP), Huthiafah Abdel-Jawad and Dan Villejo (knee). A lot.
