The bright lights inspired the girls in the Garner Ivey finals, with nine of the matches ending in a pin.

While Conor McGregor was making quick work of his opponent in a UFC title fight in Las Vegas, a pair of Moanalua wrestlers did the same at the Garner Ivey Invitational on Maui on Saturday.

Caleb Garcia of Moanlaua had the fastest pin with an 18 second job on the boys side, and Na Menehune girl Khaitlin Bernaldez did even better by matching McGregor’s 13 seconds in a girls match.

Bernaldez also led all girls with five pins but Alexis Encinas and Iverly Navarro contributed 28 points each for defending state champion Lahainaluna to help the Lunas to the team title.

Bernaldez finished third in the 102 pound bracket behind Waianae’s Alexis Nelson and Amanda Higa, Bernaldez’s teammate. Garcia was fifth in the 285-pound boys class.

Jeff Dudoit of Lahainaluna and Waianae’s Keale Keliinoi tied for the most pins with four. Kainalu Estrella contributed 30.5 points to Lahainaluna’s team score, the tops in that category.
