More than 40 high school seniors, including volleyball standouts like ‘Iolani’s Bailey Choy and golf state champion Mariel Galdiano, signed with their respective colleges this morning.
Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance hosted the letter-of-intent signing ceremony at the Elks Lodge of Honolulu, located on the shore of Waikiki.
Choy, who sparked ‘Iolani to the ILH girls volleyball championship this fall, signed with the University of Utah. She was one of 13 volleyball players who signed at the event.
“I bought it from the bookstore when I visited in October. Oh, I love the campus there. It’s a beautiful place. It reminds me of here. All the people are nice,” she said. “I went to Utah my freshman year.”
Galdiano signed with UCLA, as expected. Several other golfers signed, as well as basketball and track athletes.
The sport with the most representation was softball, which had 15 signees at the ceremony. Among them were Mililani ace pitcher Aubree Kim, who signed with Santa Clara.
Boys volleyball was ripped by Moanalua’s Austin Matautia (Hawaii), and Punahou’s Wil Stanley (BYU) and Kelsi Yogi (Cal State Northridge).
Tonight, all-state girls basketball player of the year Chanelle Molina of Konawaena will sign with Washington State. The signing ceremony will be held at the school.
