Kealakehe and Konawaena clinched Big Island Interscholastic Federation football regular-season titles with wins last weekend. They will be the top seeds in the league’s upcoming Division I and D-II playoffs.
In BIIF Division I, Kealakehe (7-3) beat Waiakea 43-16 on Friday to finish 6-1 in the league, one game ahead of Hilo. The Waveriders open the playoffs with a D-I semifinal game at home against last-place and winless Keaau on Saturday.
The Vikings (5-4, 5-2) host Waiakea in the other D-I semifinal.
In BIIF Division II, Konawaena (8-1) routed Honokaa 50-6 on Friday to finish 6-1 in the league, one game ahead of Kamehameha-Hawaii. The Wildcats play the Dragons again in the D-II semifinals on Friday.
The Warriors (8-2, 5-2) host Hawaii Prep in the other D-II semifinal.
In the Maui Interscholastic League, the D-I and D-II races heated up with two weeks to go in the regular season, thanks to D-II Lahainaluna’s 17-7 win at home over D-I Maui on Saturday.
