Kahuku senior running back Sefa Ameperosa missed last Friday’s 63-0 victory over Waipahu due to a sprained ankle he suffered in practice last week.
Ameperosa, however, has been cleared to play for the Red Raiders (7-0, 6-0) in Saturday’s Oahu Interscholastic Association first-place battle at Aloha Stadium against Waianae (6-1, 6-0).
Ameperosa has not been practicing this week as a precaution, according to Kahuku offensive coodinator John Hao. Ameperosa was on crutches last week so he could stay off the ankle.
Kahuku junior starting quarterback Kesi Ah-Hoy has been battling a sore ankle caused by the wear and tear of the season, according to Hao, and has also missed this week’s practices.
“They’re in shape, so missing a few practices is not going to hurt them,” Hao said. “We want to make sure we don’t lose them (due to reinjury) in practice.”
Hao also said junior backup quarterback Jordan Mariterangi is back throwing with the team after having surgery on his collarbone. He has not been cleared for contact drills.
Ah-Hoy (6 feet, 215 pounds) is 17-for-30 for 256 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in seven games. He has also rushed for 465 yards and eight TDs, and he lines up as a running back at times.
Ameperosa (5-11, 205 pounds) has rushed for 559 yards and six TDs in six games.
Yeah! There it is. Redraider Prep World. Thanks for the update Nick Abramo. Best of luck to both Kahuku and Waianae in this epic battle.
Smash mouth football causes injurues monday through saturday, by time the playoffs come around everyone is injured. Glad a St. Louis OC could come in and put a hold on all that pointless smashing…next year we’ll get you guys out of the caveman era and running a spread.
Hi808, i like caveman football.
happy you got a post red raiders?
@hi808…. so how do explain the pointless smashmouth when they won states 2yrs in a row?…..
Nice. Mahalo Hawaii Prep World. I asked this morning on an update and you guys responded swiftly. As the OIA and States starts soon, it’s important to be updated on the injury list. Beautiful response.
Hahah. Being undefeated deserves a post. Lol. Knock on wood.
Caveman football is what got us championships! It’s been working all these years.
Hiro you are soooooo 2012, Its a QB game now because of the new rules that penalise rough play. If you dont have a throwing QB you will not beat the ILH schools because they are producing D1 QBs every year, the past 3 years its been all passing teams that won the title and Kahuku watching the game at home. oh, and dont forget that 2011,2012 Kahuku did have a decent throwing QB so it wasnt entirely caveman.
The past 2 years its been someone other than Kahuku winning. How did Punahou’s pass happy offense do against Kahuku in the State playoffs? Did they win by passing? The States best receiver was held to 89 yards recieving that game. Punahou’s passing offense held to 2 field goals. Every year the ILH is producing D1 QB’s? Where is 2012’s D1 QB? Oh thats right he’s At USC killing it on the volleyball courts. C’mon man
@hi808…. no no no, defense will always win Championships…. ask Mililani when their D was the reason Tuli Wily suffered a concussion in the OIA title game last yr, Kailua’s D for pressuring Milton and opening the door for the OIA & States wide open….. remember now, Mililani D took care of Kahuku’s qb, Punahou beat Kahuku with a K. Noa kickoff rtrn and a 47yd field goal (i think it was 47). Not with their offense, but Defense and Special Teams. And in 2012, Kahuku had the no.1 RB and running game in the state, and in the state title game…… trick plays and defense won that one….. and last yr, Talaupapa fumbles the ball on the goalline which sealed the game for Mililani.so ur spread offense really dont mean jack s#!!…..
Millville might be the exception to the rule
Their offense is all the D they have needed for the past few years
and this is coming from a “defense wins championships” person
Since 2000 Kahukus defense has made 8 State Championships and winning 7. Counting the undefeated asterisk year, Mariotas year, you could have added another. But they have carried the OIA. I think Leileihua had one and Mill vile had one. Yes defense wins championships.
First John Hao gotta go! Killing me last week vs Waipahu QB Kesi injured and the the other QB Neumann comes in gets Injured and the the last Real QB Renaud comes in and still running the QB draw what an idiot!!! Whatever’s learn the hard way!
Let the best team win! Good luck!
Hawaii football is whack that’s why teams are getting blown away. I love Hawaii but our football is whack!!!
