The Positive Coaching Alliance and Boys and Girls Clubs of Hawaii are trotting out the Los Angeles Lakers for a fundraiser on Friday morning in Waikiki, but they would probably agree that the real winners will be at different tables.
The organization’s Hawaii chapter will get together for the Breakfast of Champions at the Coral Ballroom at Hilton Hawaii Village from 7-9 a.m. for a breakfast with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, head coach Byron Scott and assistant coach Mark Madsen. Kanoa Leahey will be the master of ceremonies. PCA Hawaii director Jeaney Garcia has been hinting about a few special guests showing up. She won’t name names, but since the Lakers are in town for training camp, it’s a pretty sure bet that the mystery guests will be taller than she is.
The PCA won’t be just collecting money, it will be giving some out.
Nine local high school athletes will receive PCA Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarships, worth up to $2,000, at the event. Those finalists, who carry GPAs over 3.0 and have been judged by the organization as successful in making themselves, their teammates and the sport they play better.
